A mushroom about three inches tall grows from leaf litter on the forest floor. It is a classic umbrella shape mushroom with a small purple and tan on its cap. The rest of the cap is a soft lavender. It is perfectly round. The stem is harder to see but shares the same colors as the stem.

I’ve taken many shots like this, every year, with the same subject and in the same place. Yet I’m still fascinated by this perspective.
This one is from just a few hours ago: the sunset and the "fragile" flower. A breath of wind will be enough, and the flower, as we see it, will vanish. Yet it will be everywhere, spreading itself across the world.
There it stands, swaying in the gentle air and the soft warmth of a November sunset, defying whatever happens around it.

No yesterday, no tomorrow - just here, now, basking in this poetic light.

And life, silently, flows on.

American author, illustrator, and educator Anna Botsford Comstock died #OTD in 1930.

The first female professor at Cornell University, her over 900-page work, The Handbook of Nature Study (1911), is now in its 24th edition. Comstock was an American artist and wood engraver known for illustrating entomological text books with her husband, John Henry Comstock including their first joint effort, The Manual for the Study of Insects (1885).

Saying goodbye to comet A6 Lemmon. It's getting very low, and clouds are increasing in southern New Mexico.

It was a remarkable run of many clear nights.

This is a single exposure on a fixed tripod.

There's a blurred silhouette of a power line, and satellite trails in this image. They belong in the frame because this is the world we have created. It's getting increasingly difficult to escape to pristine nature.

Perhaps the phrase 'pristine nature' is now an oxymoron?

Looking left from the trail I spot an obvious side quest portal over a small creek. A triangle is created from three trees: a log lays over the creek and two trees from opposite banks lean over, indicating it might be an entry point to the Illuminati. I will wait until the creek and marsh freeze over later this year before entering. Snow covers everything in this picture I took last week.

German entomologist, naturalist and scientific illustrator Maria Sibylla Merian was born #OTD in 1647.

She was among the first naturalists to observe and document the metamorphosis of insects, particularly butterflies and moths. Merian's most famous works include "Metamorphosis Insectorum Surinamensium" (Metamorphosis of the Insects of Suriname) and "The Caterpillars' Marvelous Transformation and Strange Floral Food."
