This tiny boxwood peapod (10 cm) was carved in c. 1500 by a North German artist. It opens to reveal little peas, and then those peas open to reveal ten little carved scenes from Genesis. Now housed at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Berlin

Well it's done. So many hours gone. It's been the bane of my life for the last two weeks. So many broken branches! Hand carved from boxwood (bird and leaves) walnut (branches) and oak (scrolls).

A pal asked if I could turn a two-bottle LCBO gift box into a mini-cajon.
The results were pleasing.
I bought a snare wire for $20, a strip of cedar for the sound board, and some 3/8 quarter round to reinforce the box.
The thin plywood bottle separator became the snare wire anchor, adjustable for front- or side-slap activation. The sound board itself can be slid open or closed for a crisp or muted snap. The sound hole blank decorates the top.
Customer happy.

This week's #NewBooks at the library:
- Two second-hand copies of The Correspondence of #CharlesDarwin, covering the years 1858–1860, published by Cambridge University Press.
- A new copy of The Catskill Fossil Forest, published by Gilboa Historical Society Press. A local curiosity for sure, but a fascinating little booklet about the discovery of petrified trees from the Devonian.
