One could argue that by moving from one DRM-restricted walled garden like PlayStation or Xbox to Steam is not a real solution since Steam is the same in that one does not truly own their purchases, you’re only buying a license to play the game.

Everyone trusts Valve now, but remember when everyone was up in arms about Xbox not allowing for the reselling of game discs? Remember Sony’s brutal video on how to share games on PS4 using discs? Everyone celebrated and trusted Sony then, now 13 years later?

I don’t work for GOG, but I do think they are doing things right for gamers — selling games that are DRM-free and come with offline installers. This way when I buy a game, I own the game. They might not have the latest AAA titles, but games that were fun before are still fun today — and the benefit is that they’re cheaper and fully patched up.

Let’s not keep supporting businesses that don’t let us own what we buy digitally.

https://social.gamefan.net/@gamewire/116897085641691239

cc: @lisamelton

#gaming #videogames #playstation #xbox #steam #gog #ownership #drm

Rated LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight 9/10

95% / 28hstory: 4.5⭐game design: 4⭐gameplay: 3.5⭐music & sound design: 2.5⭐ui: 4.5⭐[no spoiler]crazy to think this game is its own story, while taking plot points from 6 movies and 4 video games, without even counting the easter eggs of about EVERY SINGLE DC MEDIAS THAT HAVE EVER EXISTED.what a good time to be a batman (or even a dc) fan and getting all the little references. like most LEGO medias, we can tell all this was made with love for the franchise.they even added a few memes only a few redditors would understand.the number of costumes and obscure reference is insane. I LOVE WHEN A GAME LETS ME COLLECT OUTFITS!!!!the jokes are even better as what you would expect from a LEGO game, even as an adult.the gameplay is fun, not too hard, maybe a little repetitive sometimes. i still managed to get it to almost 100%, completed the whole map and all the side quests without feeling like i was doing chores.i didn't really care much about the fights, even tho i enjoyed the arkham feels, it wasn't as good as the other games.the puzzles are nice tho. some of them are very easy, but i had to really think for others.a few glitches here and there that can be infuriating, but it didn't ruin the game for me.the overall ux is not the best as well, i hope an update could fix some stuff.i reeeeally want LEGO to take this opportunity and build a bigger DC Universe of their own, outside of Gotham.

Spoilers: Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Rated Marvel's Spider-Man 2 7/10

[100% / 24h]story: 3⭐game design: 4⭐gameplay: 4⭐music & sound design: 4⭐ui: 4⭐gameplay wise, it's basically Spider-Man 1 but better. the combats are awesome, and sweeping through New York always feels nice.there's the same amount of attention given to Peter and Miles both in character development and gameplay, which is great.we even get to play as MJ, Venom and Hailey (in a little side quest). makes the whole experience more enjoyable imo.side content is great. i like how you can get near the 100% without having to look up soluces on the internet.i mostly had an issue with the story, and especially the second part. Kraven introduction hyped me up but i wish we had a more interesting motive.the whole Venom storyline is great at first but ends up being dragged out a bit.i hated the Spider-Man's symbiotic suit (which sucks since you have to were it for half the game) and hated Miles final suit.some choices were made to fit with the gameplay, but it kinda ruined parts of the story imo.i can get behind Harry being Venom (instead of Eddie Brock), but MJ as Scream was really out of nowhere, only to add a boss fight. didn't really like the whole "stone meteor" and "army of venom" plotline as well. even tho i get that we need basic foes for the end game.i also feel like Peter could've been more violent under the symbiot, but i think the character cannot legally kill someone or something like that.not as good as the first, story wise, but still very solid.hope we get to see a third one!EDIT after the post-credit scene : SILK OMG
