Nintendo really needs to add achievements/trophies to their platform. Other gaming platforms have had it forever.<br><br><p>2005 - Xbox Gamescore<br>2007 - Steam Achievements<br>2008 - Playstation Trophies<br>2025 - GOG Achievements</p>I like achievements because it gives me something to play towards -- and it gives me something to look back on to see what I was playing and what I did in a game.<br><br>Nintendo not having achievements discourages me from playing games on their platform if a game is available elsewhere.<br><br><a href="/tags/gaming/" rel="tag">#gaming</a> <a href="/tags/videogames/" rel="tag">#videogames</a> <a href="/tags/nintendo/" rel="tag">#nintendo</a> <a href="/tags/playstation/" rel="tag">#playstation</a> <a href="/tags/xbox/" rel="tag">#xbox</a> <a href="/tags/steam/" rel="tag">#steam</a> <a href="/tags/gog/" rel="tag">#gog</a><br>

One could argue that by moving from one DRM-restricted walled garden like PlayStation or Xbox to Steam is not a real solution since Steam is the same in that one does not truly own their purchases, you’re only buying a license to play the game.<br><br>Everyone trusts Valve now, but remember when everyone was up in arms about Xbox not allowing for the reselling of game discs? Remember Sony’s <a href="https://youtu.be/kWSIFh8ICaA" rel="nofollow">brutal video on how to share games on PS4 using discs</a>? Everyone celebrated and trusted Sony then, now 13 years later?<br><br>I don’t work for <a href="https://www.gog.com" rel="nofollow">GOG</a>, but I do think they are doing things right for gamers — selling games that are DRM-free and come with offline installers. This way when I buy a game, I own the game. They might not have the latest AAA titles, but games that were fun before are still fun today — and the benefit is that they’re cheaper and fully patched up.<br><br>Let’s not keep supporting businesses that don’t let us own what we buy digitally.<br><br><a href="https://social.gamefan.net/@gamewire/116897085641691239" rel="nofollow" class="ellipsis" title="social.gamefan.net/@gamewire/116897085641691239"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">social.gamefan.net/@gamewire/1</span><span class="invisible">16897085641691239</span></a><br><br>cc: <span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@lisamelton" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>lisamelton</span></a></span><br><br><a href="/tags/gaming/" rel="tag">#gaming</a> <a href="/tags/videogames/" rel="tag">#videogames</a> <a href="/tags/playstation/" rel="tag">#playstation</a> <a href="/tags/xbox/" rel="tag">#xbox</a> <a href="/tags/steam/" rel="tag">#steam</a> <a href="/tags/gog/" rel="tag">#gog</a> <a href="/tags/ownership/" rel="tag">#ownership</a> <a href="/tags/drm/" rel="tag">#drm</a><br>
