Started adding my updated dots for running #MangoWM ( #Wayland ) on #OpenBSD . It's still quite messy ATM as it's a WIP but I'm getting there. It's so amazing being able to run Mango on OpenBSD ! ❤️

What with all this #Wayland goodness arriving on #OpenBSD allowing me to run the likes of #MangoWM and all those amazing devs who are putting together OpenBSD 7.9 it certainly does feel like "The year of the OpenBSD desktop" to me. I'm living my best life on my computers right now.

Forget the bar as that will be changing shortly and may not even be waybar? But does my #CoW ( #FVWM for #Wayland ) menu colors look OK for my gruvbox theme ?

Enfim, será que alguém, sinceramente, prefere ter exclusivamente o esquema mais trabalhoso de selecionar texto, Ctrl+C com teclado ou clicar com direito pra escolher a opção com o próprio apontador, depois posicionar o cursor de teclado onde quer colar pra finalmente pressionar Ctrl+V ou botão direito e escolher a opção de colar?

Isso faz ou fazia muita falta quando obrigado a usar algo sem essa facilidade.

Pergunto pois dizem que #GNOME estaria considerando desativar essa função por padrão e penso se apenas eu acho a possibilidade absurda.

OK Now that I've got mango running as my #wayland compositor on #OpenBSD I'm kind of thinking of ditching dunst in favour of fnott and possibly using fyi instead of notify-send. I'm just playing with their configs at the moment but it's looking promising.

Anyone else using waybar on #OpenBSD notice that sending SIGUSR1 with say pkill -SIGUSR1 -x waybar does not toggle the bar and SIGUSR2 doesn't reload it. Yet sending the SIGINT does quit waybar ? I'm using pkill as killall isn't available. It's not a showstopper as I can toggle with a wee script just wondered why that's all ? #Wayland

Strange! I have exactly the sane configs on both #OpenBSD and #FreeBSD #Qutebrowser yet FreeBSD displays the pages differently to OpenBSD. The zeros on webpages on OpenBSD have no internal marks yet FreeBSD zeros have a dot inside them. Fonts are different between the two. Also on FreeBSD I have to run qutebrowser with the nogpu option so it'll run under #Wayland. I never noticed differences like this before on 14.3 but on 15.0 I'm not quite sure what's different yet ?

Linux desktop voice control has a gap. Talon costs money. Other tools are X11-only or cloud-dependent.

On the list of "is it dead and unmaintained?" concerns, the #sway window manager for #Wayland isn't looking healthy either 💔

It works great for me still, but I'm starting to worry a bit.

Is there another tiling WM for Wayland I should look at? Maybe #Hyprland?

(Though I recall there was some drama around it ...?)

When #Xfce comes with full #Wayland support I will probably give it a try, but I do not think I am switching just yet.

Soo, which tiling window manager, or any compositor really on #wayland has night light implemented?

Hmmm Me thinks that #Waybar has a memory leak as normally it runs with 64Mb ram using my config and uses about 1.5% of the CPU's but after an hour or two it ramps upto 100% useage on all cores and ram useage goes into Gigs until I kill it and restart it. #Wayland #FreeBSD

So #MangoWC goes through another name change this time to #MangoWM oh and 0.12.5 has been released.

I built a latency meter with an Arduino and a photo transistor to answer one question: Is click-to-photon latency higher on Wayland than on X11?

And the answer is: Yes, actually.

⏱️ 42 ms on X11, compositing off
⏱️ 56 ms on X11, compositing on
⏱️ 64 ms on Wayland
⏱️ 71 ms on Windows 10

Tested with Plasma 6.3.4 and Firefox 137. I will improve my methods and confirm these numbers. See replies for details.

Does anyone know of a #wayland compatible tool that can be used to find the mouse cursor?

I have a vague memory of a project that put some really flashy bling around the cursor (I can't remember if it was always on.. or just when the movement happened).

I am trying to re-create a feature of #durden / #arcan which makes your mouse cursor sparkle green after it has been idle for a bit and moves.

as an xorg-bro: what made worse impact on linux?
