I'm a Linux lady who used to work in COBOL development and assorted legacy systems management gigs.

TIL a toy company released a line of Independence Day toys in the late 90s; each toy included a different "mission disk" floppy with a multimedia program on it for windows 3.1

toy collector @eisnerguy1 managed to collect all 11 of the toys and uploaded disk images to IA 🙏

The Interlisp documentation has a distinctive style that conforms to "Xerox Publishing Standards: A Manual of Style and Design" published in 1988 in this edition. It was the Xerox house style, i.e. the style guide for company publications and documents. The manual covered everything from the publishing process to visual design.

Published in 1986, "INTERLISP: The Language and Its Usage" by Stephen Kaisler was the only book on Interlisp printed by a publisher. It extensively covers the Interlisp language and environment with many code snippets and examples.

When I pull my phone out of my pocket and turn on the screen, it takes a few seconds for the screen to reach full brightness.

Reminds me of a #CRT warming up.

Although in this case it's because the automatic brightness control is taking a moment to sense and react to the change in ambient light level, and not anything to do with the screen itself (which can change brightness instantly).

But still. It reminds me of my childhood.

I pushed an update to #DOStodon (the #Mastodon client for MS-DOS):

- Fixed a bug when viewing threads in notification screen.
- Implemented setting for CW toots (default collapsed or visible)
- Fixed dates
- Fixed image viewing
- Added help to toot editor
- Changed some colors
- Updated #curl to 8.9.1
- Added ALT text for image uploads

Did you know you can still get the src for the DICE C compiler (68000 #ANSI C #compiler) written for the #Amiga in the early 90's by Matthew Dillon?
Itll run on #BSD or #Linux host and can generate generic 68000 output that doesn't have to be targeted to the Amiga. It contains all utilities required to compile, assemble, link, rom, etc, and it's BSD licensed. dmake is needed to compile it on #Unix. It will generate 68K code, Amiga bin, obj, etc

A Terminal window is showing the results of the command `sit -v test`. This is creating a StuffIt archive from a folder named "test", with verbose output. The output shows a series of files and subfolders being archived. At the end, the last line says `Wrote 337830 bytes to "archive.sit"`

Any recommendations for interesting software/games/demos running on a 386SX-25 with 10MB RAM? Still have another 60MB free on that giant hard drive :) Soundblaster and GUS can be added.
