<p>So, today I was called a "Luddite" because I don't like AI.<br><br>Call me what you want, but when it comes to folks losing their jobs, data centers sucking up our water and causing higher energy bills for people already struggling, LLMs being trained on stolen data, and so many other ethical issues, I won't budge or back down on how I feel.<br><br>I will proudly accept the Luddite label. <p>One thing that upsets me about using LLMs to write is the utter disrespect it shows to one of humanity's most beautiful (in my view) achievements: literacy. We take our ability for written communication and composition of articles, books, poems and messages for granted to such an extent that we are willing to replace it by outputs of indeterministic and destructive automated systems. </p><p>It is a travesty that we are willing to let our use and command of language be eroded so gleefully for the sake of convenience. <a href="/tags/noai/" rel="tag">#noai</a></p>

<p>So, Codeberg (which is a FOSS/freedom-focused code hosting site) is run as a cooperative, with members able to nominate measures/policies and vote on them etc.</p><p>They just had a vote and approved policies making "AI" / LLM-based projects basically unwelcome there. The vote wasn't close; 70% voted in favour of the policy. It's not a hard & fast "if you use LLM, you're banned" or anything of the sort - it's quite a measured, reasoned stance.</p><p>The slopcoders are freaking out. They just don't understand how this is possible. Imagine!
