In gaming, it is common for spammers to report legit accounts if they echoed back their own spam. We suspend them first to minimize the spam, go back to review it, and issue warnings if needed.

It's the same in social media. Please refrain from echoing or "revenge spamming" a spammer. The spammers—and potentially non-spammers—will report you for spamming.

We then have to suspend your account to avoid further spams, and then go back later to review if you are indeed a spammer or engaging in "revenge spamming".

- It is a hassle for you.
- It will be stressful once you receive a suspension email.
- It is also increasing our workload.
- It will paint your instance/community as "bad" or lacking moderation.

The only ones enjoying it are the spammers. They know they'll get banned so they wreak havoc by confusing and stressing everyone.

---

I just so happen to be the type of moderator/GM in social media and the gaming industry who is reasonable, and takes the time to actually investigate. At least half in my line-of-work—voluntary or paid—are by-the-book. No investigation. If there's evidence = ban hammer. Forget the context.

So, please do not engage in "revenge spamming". Report the spammers and add them to your ignore list. We will get to your reports as soon as possible and suspend their accounts.

Thank you very much for your understanding and cooperation.

---

I believe I can say this is on behalf of all modertaors, admins, GMs, employees, and volunteers. 🖖🏽

Tags: #moderation #Fediverse #socmed #SocialMedia #SNS #SocialWeb #OpenSocial

#Fediverse #Bibliotheken #Bibliothekswesen

Remember when “social media” was “social networking”?

What changed? That second word: media. It’s all about capturing your attention and selling you stuff.

Humans are social and want to connect with one another. That’s what makes the #fediverse special to me - authentic connection. We haven’t forgotten the social part.

🎉 Huge shoutout to @2chanhaeng for implementing custom collection dispatchers in #Fedify through the Korean #OSSCA program!

This incredible contribution adds support for creating arbitrary collections beyond the built-in ones (e.g., outbox, inbox, following, followers). Now developers can expose custom collections like user bookmarks, post categories, or any grouped content through the #ActivityPub protocol:

federation .setCollectionDispatcher( "bookmarks", Article, "/users/{identifier}/bookmarks", async (ctx, values, cursor) => { const { posts, nextCursor } = await getBookmarkedPosts(values.identifier, cursor); return { items: posts, nextCursor }; } ) .setCounter(async (ctx, values) => getBookmarkCount(values.identifier) );

The implementation is technically excellent with full #TypeScript support, both Collection and OrderedCollection types, cursor-based pagination, authorization predicates, and zero breaking changes. @2chanhaeng delivered not just code but a complete feature with 313 lines of comprehensive documentation, practical examples, and thorough test coverage.

This opens up countless possibilities for ActivityPub applications built with Fedify. From user-specific collections to complex categorization systems, developers now have the flexibility to create any type of custom collection while maintaining full ActivityPub compliance.

Thank you @2chanhaeng for this outstanding contribution and to the OSSCA program for fostering such excellent open source collaboration! 🚀

Issue: https://github.com/fedify-dev/fedify/issues/310
Pull request: https://github.com/fedify-dev/fedify/pull/332

#opensource #fedidev #fediverse

I feel like there is a real desire for better tech out there.

The reason I am saying this is that I would never have expected that this little side project that is https://technically-good.ca/ would draw this much engagement - and I don't mean the quick-hit types of engagement, like likes and boosts.

I mean *real people* writing in with questions, comments, concerns. Creatives saying how an article really resonated with them, folks asking how they can help their friend group migrate to a less shitty platform, many others.

And I'm just running a tiny blog that's been up for only a few months!

I am very encouraged by these responses. We have momentum right now and it feels like something is shifting.

If you have a blog, post content critical of AI and the established algorithmic platforms, or provide tips for using alternatives - KEEP IT UP. ✊🏼Even if you think you are just one small person.
I think the #ActivityPub client-to-server API is extremely important and underrated. I’m glad to see the SWF and W3C group prioritizing it, because I think it has the potential to fix something that’s kind of broken on the #Fediverse: too many accounts, on too many platforms that really ought to be clients.

Here’s the rub, though: you need the big players in the space to support it. Mastodon needs to support it. Pixelfed and PeerTube need to support it.

So, how do you get the big existing projects to all implement it? How do you justify it?

Today, Amnesty International have shared their report into X's part in the UK 'Race Riots' last year.

Unsurprisingly, their findings highlighted that the design choices within X contributed to spreading of false claims and ultimately the violence we saw across the UK last year against Muslims and migrants following the murder of three young girls.

Please, take a look at the report here and share it with your friends who still, solely, use X.

https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2025/08/xs-design-and-policies/

#LeaveX #Fediverse
