One of my motivations for creating Retejo is for note taking.

I.e., something like a Fediverse & Social-Web version of Obsidian or Roam Research.

#Fediverse #retejo #SocialWeb

One of the /facepalm moments you see in online communities is when a person or group attacks or insult a different culture or people, and when they fight back, they get offended and reports them (and calls the gang to mass report and exchange more words).

This is common in online games but also in the #SocialWeb. All you can do is 🤦🏽 or 🤷🏽 or both.

Moral lesson: If you think you're entitled to attack, bully, harass, or defame another person, people/Nation, culture, language, or country, then you shouldn't complain if they return the favor.

As the #GoldenRule goes:

> Treat others as one would like others to treat them

> Do not treat others in ways that one would not like to be treated

> What one wishes upon others, they wish upon themselves

Or, religious or philosophical:

> Ma'at: Do to the doer to make him do.

> Ma'at: That which you hate to be done to you, do not do to another.

> Thales: Avoid doing what you would blame others for doing.

> Isocrates: Do not do to others that which angers you when they do it to you.

> Leviticus (book): You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against your kinsfolk. Love your neighbor as yourself

> Matthew (book): In everything do to others as you would have them do to you

> Hinduism: If the entire Dharma can be said in a few words, then it is—that which is unfavorable to us, do not do that to others.

> Confucious: What you do not wish for yourself, do not do to others.

> Yoruba: One who is going to take a pointed stick to pinch a baby bird should first try it on himself to feel how it hurts.

Or, as we Filipinos say:

> Karma!

---

Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Rule

The other thing that the #Guppe incident showed us is that the #Fediverse seriously needs the #Nomadic protocol.

Let's say the Fediverse understands the protocol: just move to a new domain, inform all instances "this is the new domain, automatically re-subscribe please", done. Life goes on for regular people.

I am not saying it is that easy or that's how exactly it will work. But it could've been avoided. Right now, entire communities are gone, many who were relying on it are now disconnected. (Then again, I can argue that it's time to clean the membership since many accounts are also stagnant.)

So, when? #ActivityPub2 ?

#SocialWeb #OpenSocial #OpenSocialWeb

Recently there has been a lot of discourse about ActivityPub and AT Protocol which has been quite dividing and heated.

Yesterday at the Social Web CG meeting (the group that maintains the ActivityPub and related specifications), I proposed releasing a statement that counters the narrative that one of these protocols must win, when both protocols can co-exist and have a lot to learn from each other.

The statement has been co-signed by various members of both Social Web CG, SocialCG, and the AT Protocol community.

“We do not win by tearing each other down, which only emboldens and empowers those who do not want either protocol to succeed.”

“Arguing between us only emboldens those that seek to derail and destroy efforts to build an open social web.”

You can read the full statement here:
https://github.com/swicg/general/blob/master/statements/2025-09-05-activitypub-and-atproto-discourse.md

#activitypub #atprotocol #atproto #SocialWeb

Last week, I posted a question on Mastodon to check if people are using @elk. We got a massive response and some interesting insights. In this video I go through the data and what it means for the future of Elk.

#mastodon #fediverse #socialweb #elk #decentralized #socialmedia #socialnetworkingapp #foss #opensource #webdevelopment #webdeveloper

I'm on fedi & promote it cause it has the potential to fix the control over cultural attention by the wealthy and govts via mass media as documented by Chomsky. Based on what #bluesky did last week and still refuses to acknowledge, it's obvious they don't share my goals. They can't be allowed to be the future of social media, no matter how many times they claim to care about decentralization. And why has none of our tech press reported on this?

#SocialWeb #LiberalValues

https://www.turkishminute.com/2025/04/17/bluesky-restrict-access-72-account-turk-amid-government-pressure7/
