We'd like to recognize some excellent contributions from our #OSSCA (Open Source Contribution Academy) participants who have been working on #Fedify.

@gaebalgom contributed PR #339, which introduces the @fedify/elysia package to provide Elysia integration for Fedify. This work addresses issue #286 by creating a plugin that enables developers using #Bun and #Elysia to integrate Fedify's #ActivityPub capabilities into their applications. The contribution includes the core integration module, documentation, examples, and proper monorepo configuration, making Fedify accessible to the Elysia community.

@r4bb1t submitted PR #315, implementing comprehensive AbortSignal support across multiple APIs to resolve issue #51. This contribution adds request cancellation capabilities not only to lookupWebFinger() but also to lookupObject(), DocumentLoader, and the HTTP signature authentication flow (doubleKnock()), allowing developers to properly handle timeouts and abort ongoing requests throughout the entire request chain. The implementation includes extensive test coverage for cancellation scenarios across all affected components and lays the groundwork for adding --timeout options to various CLI commands like fedify lookup, fedify webfinger, and fedify nodeinfo, making federated applications more robust and responsive.

@ooheunda addressed a testing infrastructure issue with PR #350, fixing a race condition in PostgreSQL message queue tests that was causing intermittent failures (issue #346). By adding explicit initialization before concurrent message queue listeners, this fix prevents table creation conflicts that were affecting test reliability, ensuring more consistent PR testing for all contributors.

@songbirds provided two test stability improvements with PR #344 and PR #347. The first PR adds skip guards to RedisKvStore tests as a workaround for a known Bun runtime issue, keeping the test suite functional while awaiting an upstream fix. The second PR resolves a race condition in the code generation process by randomizing output filenames, preventing conflicts during parallel test execution. These contributions help maintain a stable testing environment for the project.

Thank you all for your contributions to Fedify.
We’ve improved ActivityPub support in WordPress to make fediverse sharing smoother and more engaging—images in comments that use img tags from your media library are now properly attached, so followers on other platforms see them inline. You’ll also notice easier following: see who you already follow and follow others back with one click. Multibyte text like Greek or Japanese is now handled more reliably in post summaries.

In gaming, it is common for spammers to report legit accounts if they echoed back their own spam. We suspend them first to minimize the spam, go back to review it, and issue warnings if needed.

It's the same in social media. Please refrain from echoing or "revenge spamming" a spammer.
The Problem with the Fediverse

I have no issues with the way it is implemented, I have no issues with it at all. For context, I left Twitter to join the Fedi, and it has been great so far! I use Misskey for microblogging, PeerTube for uploading videos, and Lemmy for Reddit-style discussions. The Fediverse is amazing!

Except, idk, for the fact that it is too fragmented? I hope I am using the right words. Like, the current instance I am on does not have support for communities, so i have to do it the hard way and mention @fediverse so that I can post here. It's a good workaround, considering it doesn't have built-in support for communities.
But my point still stands. It's not a Lemmy/PieFed problem. It's mostly a fediverse problem. Implementing communities for every platform would help the Fediverse. Not only does it solve discoverability/algorithm issues of the Fediverse (since now when you follow a community, you get all posts from that community), but also it would interconnect every platform (Misskey, PeerTube, Mastodon, etc.)

Imagine you don't have to use your Lemmy account to check everything on Lemmy. Instead of creating channels in PeerTube, just post to an existing channel/community, and people subscribed to that channel/community can find you easily. I see this as an absolute win for everyone.

I understand this would require collaboration between all developers of all software. But hopefully, this is possible?
Or am I asking for too much?

If I am wrong, then is there any way in which we can solve this issue?

#fediverse #problems #fediverseproblems

🦣 Stegodon v1.7.2 brings vibrant 24-bit TrueColor support and smoother timeline performance! No more redundant reloads when switching views, plus better content sanitization and a handy spinner. #stegodon #fediverse #golang #tui

Hi #fediverse and #ActivityPub developers!

I'm currently working on interoperability testing for #Hollo and #Fedify, and I need a #Bonfire account to test federation with their implementation.

Since there aren't many open public Bonfire instances available, I was wondering if any Bonfire instance admins out there would be willing to grant me a test account? It would be a huge help for improving interop! Let me know if you can help. Thanks!

#fedidev #BonfireNetworks
