Naomi Novik had a little novella out: The Summer War, and it turned out to be a quite satisfying read. (I had read one of her novels before: Uprooted.)</p><p>So, I thought &quot;Why not give a full-length fantasy tome a try?&quot; To that end, I picked up the highly rated This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me, by Illona Andrews. Are any of you familiar with it? It came out this year. The author seems to have put forth significant effort into world-building and story development. <p>I&#x27;ve finished: The Four Profound Weaves by R.B. Lemberg</p><p>I was introduced to R.B. Lemberg when they were a guest on a podcast. I decided to check out her work but found that her only book available in audio was The Four Profound Weaves. </p><p>It&#x27;s a bit strange to enter a universe at a late stage and through a side corridor. The world feels lived in but there are allot of major events that are only referenced in passing.</p><p>I loved the setting and the aging characters.</p><p>I liked the fact that Lenberg isn&#x27;t trying to build a past that accepts LGBTQIA characters. <p>Happy <a href="/tags/insectweek/" rel="tag">#InsectWeek</a>!</p><p>Did you know: As an entomologist, all the fantasy-ish books I&#x27;ve written exist because I was tired of reading stories where insects were the bad guys/monsters/harbingers of doom, etc. In fact, I decided to start writing just so I could place them in a more positive light. They&#x27;re also chock-full of fun insect related facts and tales!</p><p>In Apis, a scientist wakes up from a near-death experience to find honey bees living inside her.</p><p>In Wild Things, one of the characters lives with a colony of vulture bees in their chest.</p><p>roach: a love story is about a cockroach who wakes up transformed into a human, with another character who can turn into a swarm of flies.</p><p>I&#x27;m currently working on another one, but it&#x27;s a work in progress so you&#x27;ll have to wait to find out what it&#x27;s about!
