One of the wildflowers of southwest Colorado that I look forward to every year, the stunning colors, wiry leaves, intricate stamens, and fuzzy details of Scarlet Globemallow are pretty incredible if you look closely.

A bright (bright!) tall yellow double flower, with so many yellow petals they're difficult to count. Sprinklers had run, so the flower is covered in small water droplets. The yellow encompasses the entire bloom, from the straight edges to the throat. Yellow!

An unopened bud is visible behind this bloom so (deer willing) you may see another one of this flower.

Took this photo in my yard yesterday. There were a dozen small gaps between the leaves, where the concrete floor showed through, but I filled them in with #Gimp clone tool. I made my clones darker than the original, but to make them smaller, I guess I'd have to paste the source into a temporary image or layer, shrink it, and clone from that? #bloomscrolling

Variegated purple and magenta leaves with lime green fringe cover the image, receding into the darker depths of the plant.

Each achene containing the seed is elongated, cream-colored, and topped with a pappus resembling a small basket, which will be used for seed dispersal. The photo shows the central point where all the achenes are attached, visible through the very fine hairs of the pappus, giving the image a diffuse appearance.
