Our dahlia plants are still putting on a show.
Slight neglect hasn't slowed them down.
It gives me great joy to see beautiful happenings that aren't hindered by negative outside events.
The spectacular blossoms push back against all that would tear us down by continuing to spread the pure joy that comes from witnessing almost impossibly intricate beauty.
Summer and I say we will choose joy today and the flowers will provide a visibly warm welcome home to my husband.

I had access to an abundance of new to me dahlia tubers this year.
The wait for them to open up is often long.
This one is called Terracotta and it has been teasing a flower for weeks. It is big and beautiful and worth the wait.

I send my daughter dahlia photos almost every day. I brag about what a fabulous dahlia grower I've turned out to be.
I know it makes her laugh.
My garden doesn't hold a candle to hers and is only thriving because she guides my dahlia journey and she really is an expert.

After our trip to the North Country Fair I took a tour of my daughter's dahlia garden.
Wowza!
She is really good at growing flowers.
I turned down a bouquet to bring home so she offered to drop it off at our Veterinary office. It will brighten up their waiting room.
I know she plans to take bouquets to some of the nonprofits we support next week.

I have distributed all of the cookies I baked this morning.
Our plumbers loved their little brown bags of freshly baked cookies.
I did thank them before I suggested that it might be nice if we don't have to see them again for awhile. As much as I appreciate everything they've done to help us.
Having clean water is something I will never take for granted.
They said "don't say that" and asked if they could check on us when they are in the neighborhood. I told them to let me know the day before and I will bake goodies. Maybe pop tarts next time.
I also dropped a gazillion cookies off to the grandkids.
Took a stroll through my daughter's garden too.
The bright sun made it a challenge to get good photos but her dahlias are spectacular.

I stopped by my daughter's house on the way home from the protest today.
She was off volunteering for the Breast Health Project.
The beautiful hand crafted wood gate to the garden was locked.
I could only see what any random passer-by might see.
I took a photo of the best blossom in her front yard and one teasing the abundance of blossoms in the backyard just out of my reach.
Tomorrow I'll try again when she is home.
