A complex tangle of flowering prickly pear cacti and succulent plants set against the pale yellow siding of a San Francisco home. A very fun photo of an adorable pink pig with green boots statue standing in front of two red-topped mushroom plushies. The photo was taken into a storefront window, showing the insides of the store but also reflections from across the street—making the scene almost psychedelic-looking. Everywhere you look it’s filled with all sorts of fantastical objects green mossy grass? A bicycle cart filled with blue flowers, green hedges with big pink roses, multi-colored beaded curtains, and in the background some tall San Francisco-style multi-story residences and shops with palm trees and blue skies with big puffy white clouds. I had a chance to witness the Great Blue Herons elaborate courtship rituals at the Everett Marina in Washington state recently.
Although they don't mate for life, they form a close bond for a breeding season.
The male picks the nest site and attracts a female, e.g. with offering twigs, if she accepts them its a sure sign of success and they go on displaying other types of courtship rituals.
In this capture the male just returns to the chosen nest site and offers a twig, the partner will be arranging the nest after accepting it.
Fascinating to observe their coded behavior.
