Yesterday I treated myself to a nice adventure in the Ardennes between Jalhay and Malmedy. I combined 2 Extratrail loops.
The day started with mists and a drizzle that turned into rain a couple of times. But the afternoon was dry.
Underfoot I had mud, roots and rocks and a couple of patches of snow and ice. I even had to use nano-spikes on 3 occasions.
72km, 1900m of EG.
8:20 of running, 9:30 elapsed.
A nice day out in a beautiful region!

January #running recap: vs December, mileage rose from 139.2 → 159.5 mi (176.6 incl walking). EG dropped from 9,977 → 5,206 ft, while run time increased from 23 → 30.5 hrs.
I missed my 208mi monthly target due to tapering and recovery around a rough #50K race at Bridle Trails. A lingering cough hurt sleep and breathing too.
I’m 52.7 mi *behind* my 2,500mi yearly goal, but I’m bouncing back! Come in March I have half and full #marathon races ahead. Onward!

I keep eyeing the folks doing regular 20-30+km runs and want to just go out and do it, consequences be ignored. My brain reminds me the whole point of taking it slow is so that I can go do that very thing in time.
I am debating what I should be doing next. I've settled nicely into the Zone 2 running habit, and I *feel* as handling six days a week, but I think I'll have to cut that down to five as distance increases. Two days off in a row, or two-off-three-off? Things to try. Thoughts?

I hadn't run since Wednesday, due to feeling mentally fatigued, so needed a couple of days extra rest for my own wellbeing.
This morning, I deliberately went out a little later, just in the golden hour as the veil of night is pulled back, so no torch required. Today a short 7km, and the only thing other than wearing a short sleeved shirt for the first time this year, was to simply run comfortably...it was a super run

This week's training was not top.
I felt exhausted both mentally and physically due to a lot of stuff going on at work, bringing stress in my mind and body.
I skipped 3 running sessions during the week, shortened 2 others, and shortened my long run today.
This is just what my body needs, I think.
But it isn't easy to accept.
Gelesen / Read: Scott Jurek—Eat & Run: Pretty solid book. Good recipes, nice anecdotes and a ton of examples of what I would probably not do, like running with broken bones and stuff. Nevertheless, it felt quite relatable. I liked it.

May #running recap: compared to April 200.4 → 245.3mi (263.8 w/ walking), EG 4,071ft → 3,609, 30 → 36hr running.
This was whopping 45.3mi above my monthly 200mi goal, boosting for my June #Marathon race. No PR was gained, but I ran #marathon #24 this month.
I'm at 1,208.7 of yearly goal 2,400mi, 215.9 ahead at end of May (I can take a month off if I want!). The next full marathon race, running 220+ laps around #UW water fountain, is due in 6 days (https://raceconditionrunning.com/drumheller-marathon-25/). Onward!
Fantastic turnout today No Kings March, Palm Beach Gardens. Probably 2000 people or so both sides of busy highway, very inspiring in the brutal 32.5C heat/high RH. Only 2 MAGAt problems, big black oversized trucks w big wheels (always trouble, those) speeding past, yelling, flipping off. If police weren't there, they may well have run into the crowd. My 89 yr. old father, USMC vet was with 👍🏽. Carlin Park run this morn., before, so taxing for me. #nokings #florida #running #birds

July #running recap: compared to June I have 245.9 → 225.4mi (240.0 w/ walking), EG 3,728 → 4,419ft, 37 → 34hr running.
This was down from June, but still 25.4mi above my monthly 200mi goal. During the month I ran my 27th marathon and 60th half since 2022. My VO2Max via #Apple Watch also reached a new high: 49.6!
I'm at 1,680.2 of yearly goal 2,400mi, 286.2 ahead. And I'm tapering for the coming #marathon #race taking place in one week (https://www.tunnelmarathon.com)! Onward!

This was stable from May, and 45.9mi above my monthly 200mi goal. During the month I ran my 2nd #marathon #race this year (#UW #Drumheller water fountain race) and two 50+K runs on consecutive Sundays, setting distance record to 35.28mi!
