A series of concentric water ripples and the distorted reflections of a surrounding forest.

The image is anchored by a clear point of impact in the exact center, from which perfectly circular, tightly spaced ripples radiate outward across the entire frame. The ripples create a heavily textured, corrugated surface on the water, transforming the background into an impressionistic, wavy pattern.

Vertical, distorted bands of pinkish-brown, copper, and tan mimic the trunks of trees. Splashes of bright, saturated green reflect dense foliage overhead. Patches of clear sky blue are visible between the trees, providing a cool contrast to the warmer wood tones.

Ooooh. I just discovered there are three programmable settings on my camera. So - purely for science and absolutely, definitely not because it would make me more popular - I have set them to cats, flowers, and birds.

Actually... not a duck.

It's a giant snowy egret, standing in shallow water. This also-not-a-swan is facing to the right, long neck extended upward. It is reflected beautifully in the water of a tidal pond at Point Reyes National Park.

The photo was taken a year ago. It's one of two dozen pictures I snapped of this bird on a day when I was feeling like a naturey gay rather than a city gay.

Monochrome. Bright exposure.

The rest of the photo are the heads of people matching in the parade and bits of signs and other flags. Across the street are many old lighter colored buildings. Sometimes the simple ideas are harder to achieve. I wanted blue sky as a background, so I had to get low. But when you're low, things that are standing upright aren't on your plane of focus. So I did a Mr. Fantastic impression, holding the camera with one hand and pulling the stem closer with my foot. Neither the plant nor I were hurt in the process. 🌱

Is there someone in the Bay Area who is interested in buying a Nikon CoolScan 8000ED with a Mac Mini set up to run NikonScan? (I access it though my modern Mac and can show you how.. much better than Vuescan.)

I have a 35mm and medium format tray as well.

I’m loathe to part with it but I’m downsizing and don’t have any free time to scan film anymore.

$1500, got it straight from Frank Phillips. Hard to ship so prefer an SF pickup. Posting this here before I put it on photomarket / photrio / fredmiranda.
