J. M. W. Turner’s c.1798–99 self-portrait housed at Tate Britain.

This oil-on-canvas painting depicts Turner at about 23 – 24 years old, in a three-quarter, half-length view.

His face and upper body are brightly illuminated, emerging from a featureless brown background.

Turner portrays himself as a prosperous Georgian gentleman: a dark coat with the collar turned up, layered waistcoats (one silver, one blue), a crisp white shirt, and a tied cravat.

HAPPY JUNETEENTH EVERYONE!!!

I live a couple of miles from the Ohio River, where the river represented the border between freedom and slavery.

This painting honors John P Parker, who lived just 7 miles from my home in Ripley, Ohio. Born into slavery, Parker learned to read, bought his freedom, owned his own business and helped hundreds of slaves cross the river.

His home is depicted on the far left of the painting.

My left-handed (non-dominant hand) painting of a silly orange cat! I have been occasionally practicing and training my left hand to paint as a backup in case my right hand gets fatigued. This is called "Cat in Boat Pose."
