I just discovered the amazing Evertop project by @cobble2stone @ericjenott! Evertop is a portable PC that emulates an IBM XT with an 80186 processor and 1MB RAM, running DOS, Minix, and other old 1980s operating systems, including Windows up to version 3.0. Powered by a low-power microcontroller and an e-ink display, it can run for hundreds or even thousands of hours on a single charge, thanks to its built-in solar panel and extreme power-saving measures. It's loaded with built-in peripherals like a keyboard, PS/2 ports, graphics support, audio output, serial ports, USB, Ethernet, WiFi, and LoRA radio. Charging options include a solar panel, DC input, and micro USB. It features a detachable keyboard, optional hibernate, and power shutoff. Storage is via SD card, and it's powered by an Espressif ESP32 microcontroller. Compatibility includes almost all IBM PC/XT compatible DOS software from the 1980s and early 90s. There's also a minimal version, "Evertop Min," which reduces weight and cost by removing some features. I'd love to see a model with a Raspberry Pi Zero for more productivity-focused tasks. 大家好，#Fread 现在已经决定开源了，欢迎大家查看代码提交 PR。

Fread 经历了两年多的开发，从开始到现在一直免费使用，之前由于没考虑好到底是付费下载还是免费所以闭源，仓库里也有很多敏感数据一直没法开源，现在主要功能都开发的差不多了，也是时候开源出来了。

虽然这种项目大部分都是业务代码，但是 Fread 还是有些独特之处的，首先使用的是 Kotlin Multiplatform 和 Compose Multiplatform 做跨平台，目前像 Fread 这么复杂的产品使用这样技术栈的其实很少，并且这是比较新的技术，这点 Fread 有很多参考意义。
另外 Fread 因为要兼容多个社交平台以及混合 Feeds，所以架构设计上下了点功夫，目前可以从架构上兼容这些短博客协议。

总之，虽然确实希望通过 Fread 赚钱，但我更希望自己开发了这么久的 App 有更多的人使用和喜欢。

I started regularly donating about a year ago. I am now supporting 8 different projects with 20,77€ per month, and it didn't hurt at all.

Why pay for something free? Because free software only exists because other people already paid for it. Someone has to do it. It's time to do your part!

If you can afford a subscription service, then you probably can afford a little donation, too. Start with 0.1% of your income.

Framasoft (that’s us!) is a small French non-profit (10 employees + 25 volunteers), that has been promoting Free-Libre software and its culture to a French-speaking audience for 20+ years.

What does Framasoft do?

We strongly believe that Free-Libre software is one of the essential tools for achieving a Free-Libre society. That is why we maintain and contribute to lots of projects that aim to empower people to get more freedom in their digital lives.

Among those tools are:

20 FOSS based web-services that we host (mainly for our French-speaking audience) on our Degooglify Internet website, including Framadate and Framaforms… ;
many talks, workshops, and participations to conventions ;
A blog, where we share our views and where a group of volunteers translate into French news from the English-speaking FLOSS world ;
Many, many ressources to help people and organizations in their transition to ethical digital tools (guides, documentation, even card games!) ;

Framasoft is funded by donations (94% of our 2024 budget), mainly grassroots donations (75% of the 2024 budget). As we mainly communicate in French, the overwhelming majority of our donations comes from the French-speaking audience. You can help us through joinpeertube.org/contribute.

We develop PeerTube

In the English-speaking community, we are mostly known for developing PeerTube, a self-hosted video and live-streaming free/libre platform, which has become the main alternative to Big Tech’s video platforms.

From a student project to a software with international reach, our video platform solution is now, seven years later, used and acknowledged by many institutions!

The last major version of PeerTube, v7, has been released at the end of 2024, along with the first version of the official mobile app, available on both Android (Play Store, F-Droid) and iOS.

Now that the PeerTube platform has matured significantly over successive versions, we believe that the way to enable even more people to use PeerTube is to improve the mobile app so that it can be carried around in people’s pockets.

pw-videomix v0.3.0

A lot of new features were added within the last year. Not all are finished. The reason, why I hesitated to release a new version. But the next step needs to be taken. So the motto of 0.3.0 is:

"Half Baked"

new:
- Saving and loading project files.

- New nodes (kaleidoscope, video source, encoder sink for video files, control nodes).

- MIDI devices to control values.

- Removed binaries from the source repository. The Linux binary will be updated regularly now. There won't be a Windows binary in the near future.

- Connections update their resolution automatically. No reconnects needed anymore.

Freed a chromebook (Acer 14 CB3-431) from Google. Got it used for 65€. Still has the power for 5 hours of movie (full hd/h265) or 6-7 hours of working with LibreOffice.
