Another day, another twinge of sadness after discovering a useful open-source library that was abandoned sometime in the last five years.
This isn't some niche thing. It's linked directly in the documentation of an influential JavaScript framework, and you can't even install it anymore because it's out of date with said framework.
I don't think we've fully realized the scope and impact of this trend.
An opinion piece I wrote on why you should move away from GitHub to something like Forgejo (try Codeberg if you want something hosted for you) for development. Applies to companies and open-source devs.

On Thursday, @gyptazy provided a talk about #BoxyBSD at the "Virtualization Gathering" at @credativde.
@gyptazy provided some more information about the BoxyBSD project, but also about the history and infrastructure including the switches of #FreeBSD #Jails, #bhyve and #Proxmox (#kvm). Afterwards, additional information about the #Sylve project were shared and why this is so important and interesting and could make BoxyBSD return to bhyve based #virtualization.

It is my personal and professional opinion, not to fund or further trust the Starkey Development.
I am out 1,000 bucks and that is my own doing. My fault. My stupidity.
But the development may be toxic with some not so nice individuals. The software, I like. You're likely using the software too (It's good, isn't it? I think so). But I do believe there are some toxic people you may not want to be associated within the development.

Hi :)
I'm here to show you the (current) entire process of creating your own skill effect inside the engine!
Lots of work is still needed on the graph system, but it's a start! =)

Spread the word. #streisandthis #followerpower #nextcloud #owncloud #opencloud. It wasn't very #opensource what happened to me over the last two years. And it did cost a lot, but I didn't back down with my articles, neither did my publishers. Thanks to all of them. And the Regensburg court was very clear. If you ever are in similar trouble, I can help and report.
Thank you, #NoSlapp for your assessment on this case. In particular, thank you, Philipp Wissing!

TIL again, about low ram footprint editors in OpenSource environments.
In the period where the following commands were valid
ATX3DT
ATA
Such editors were standard. I'm talking about vi. Over extremely noisy POTS lines without error correction, vi was the only editor you could use safely. I remember switching from editing mode to reading mode as frequently as possible, because the 2400 BPS modem from the SR University, had difficulty to keep the line as noise free as possible due to the archaic hardware infrastructure of the phone company.
The editor I'm learning again about is nvi
I'm going to take a deep dive into this, because one thing I love is using the least memory as possible while computing

Okay it’s probably obvious/I’m over-thinking it, but I really like that every word in the @roost.tools acronym carries weight.
Here’s what ROOST stands for: (🧵)
有个网站访客分析工具 matomo, 之前还用过。这个名字反正是很难记,怎么都记不住…… 看了下,Matomo 在mastodon 上也有号,说他们自己是第一。#opensource

Running sh commands on Android is easy.
You need a terminal ENV which runs unprivileged. You need package management. You need csh zsh ksh bash skills
It's full blown, comes with minimal packages, so you can extend with anything from vim, Yes VIM to htop, neofetch, to c programming, with all the cherry 🍒 on top
I use termux
You may get it on fDroid, the home site, but NOT from playstore
Update:
I was just warned that the Play Store version is horrifically broken please read the post from the contributor
Thank you @traecer

Do you hate #broligarchs?
#Billionaires? #AiSlop but still think there is merit in #AI?
Here is my proposal for a stand alone.
OFFGRID COMMUNITY AI SYSTEM.
That's right.Your very own co-op AI
The calculations are very much back of the envelope, first cut, but quite feasible.
A 32billion parameters, frontier level performance compatable open source #llm model. The power requirements is that of 3AC units including cooling. Serves 15-20 concurrent users. 40 households of 4 people each (taking into account actual AI model distributed use metrics and contention ratios)
40 households, subscribing at $30/month over 2 years + power (solar). Train with your own datasets.
Entire set up takes half a rack.
LETS GO!!!

Ever messed up an update? We got you covered! Simply restore your Snapshot!
You can now also manage (create, delete, restore) a snapshot of your Box! If you ever messed up your application, OS update or anything else - simply go back to your last snapshot and try again! This way, you can test and learn #BSD even better and easier!
