The Rubin Observatory opened its eyes & immediately discovered 1900 asteroids, including the fastest-spinning large asteroid (once every 1.88 minutes!).

The lightcurve of 2025 MN45 — the fastest-rotating asteroid with a diameter over 500 meters that scientists have ever found. The y-axis shows the asteroid’s brightness, and the x-axis shows its phase, or where it is in its rotation. When plotted, the resulting curve shows the asteroid's fluctuating brightness as it spins. Lightcurves can help scientists determine an asteroid's rotation period (the total time it takes to complete one rotation), size, shape, and surface properties.

The discovery of 2025 MN45 was made using data from NSF–DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory, jointly funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science. The asteroid is about 710 meters (0.44 miles) in diameter, and it completes a full rotation every 1.88 minutes.

Behold this metal af mushroom that showed up in our yard! Last night it had the classic, domed mushroom shape. By morning it had turned into this!

How to describe this magnificent fungi. It sprouts up from the spiky, redwood leaf litter on a smooth, cream colored stalk - maybe 10-15cm tall (but what do I know as an American 🙄). What was last night a tall, domed cap the same color as the stem transformed overnight into a disk shape ringed with shiny, almost metallic black fronds that curl under. Other gray mushroom anatomy going on inside the ring.

My amaryllis just bloomed. I've had it for 4 yrs now & this is only the 2nd yr it's bloomed. This variety is commonly called butterfly amaryllis and I just love the color/feathering 👍.

Removed this large Fire Salamander from the well.

It either lived there (the well is mostly dry due to a leak) or it got syphoned into it with today's heavy #rain. It was resting on top of the only bit of rock that stood above the water surface.

Any advice on how/where to release this fella? I know they need access to water so I might need to find a stream or pond of sorts in the vicinity.
