It's not what I would call a cozy landscape, but then again, not all landscapes are. Some are rugged, resilient, toughened by weather and time and a climate bereft of soft rain to temper constant sunlight.

Through many details, they show their craggy, stubborn personality, and I admire them for it, and am inspired by it.

To be completely, totally, absolutely, 100 percent accurate, it's really called Hurricane Creek, because most of the year, that's what it looks like, a creek.

But not in spring. When the melting snow above flows into its environs, the creek, for a short but tempestuous time, transforms into a rushing river that you'd think twice about hopping over rock to rock to cross.

I had a chance to witness the Great Blue Herons elaborate courtship rituals at the Everett Marina in Washington state recently.
Although they don't mate for life, they form a close bond for a breeding season.
The male picks the nest site and attracts a female, e.g. with offering twigs, if she accepts them its a sure sign of success and they go on displaying other types of courtship rituals.
In this capture the male just returns to the chosen nest site and offers a twig, the partner will be arranging the nest after accepting it.
Fascinating to observe their coded behavior.

Firefall

Firefall is a relative newly discovered phenomenon discovered in Yosemite National Park not to be confused with the old firefall that was manmade.
I've been to Yosemite on 8 different occasions trying to capture this and have been skunked 7 times. This year everything finally lined up properly and this was the results I achieved.

Mariposa Grove

Just inside the south gate of Yosemite by roughly 1/2 mile you find the parking lot to this magnificent grove of redwoods. From the parking lot there are a number hiking trails that one can take that are easy to moderate hikes.
I had this whole grove mostly to myself. I had time to shoot undisturbed and completely enjoyed the experience.
