It’s been a while since I found something in the woods and thought, “This is THE single greatest (fill in the blank) that I’ve ever found.”

It felt surreal to just come upon this out in the middle of nowhere, way, way offtrail.

#Rocks

A large boulder, about the size of a large motorcycle, is sitting in leaves in the woods. It is made up of (seemingly) entirely quartz, looking patched together with lots of a smaller chunks to create one huge one. Veins of grey and patches of rusty orange highlight some of the shiny white. Evergreens are in the background. This is a magnificent rock that I stumbled upon last week.

Dragon's Eye

This photograph captures an incredible geological anomaly found inside an old, abandoned slate mine in Lancashire, England (often referred to by urban explorers and geologists as the "Dragon's Eye Stone Quarry").

The image shows two explorers standing on a floor of collapsed shale and slate tiles, looking up at a massive, perfectly spherical, and smooth rock formation embedded into the ceiling.
