Wistman's Woods, on Dartmoor, Devon, are allegedly haunted by hellhounds. 'Wistman' is a dialect word for the Devil, with 'wist' meaning 'eerie' or 'uncanny'. The woods and their legends are said to have inspired the Sherlock Holmes mystery 'The Hound of the Baskervilles'. Last night at a film festival in Kampala the audience was treated to my film, The Night Dancer, and it was the first public screening in Uganda, where everyone knows stories of this type of character, but glad they enjoyed it.
