#Mastodon trust and safety people, I need your help

I'm trying to understand how "Quiet Public" is used. In nearly every UX discussion I have with people the vast majority not only don't understand it, but it actively confuses them.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't have it, but I would like people to at least know WHY we have this. Given you can already opt out of search results w/ a setting, why you wouldn't just use "Followers only" instead?

Ückück und das Fediverse - meine neue Kolumne bei @gnulinux

Ein neues Projekt steht an und ich freue mich sehr. Ab diesem Monat werde ich regelmäßig für GNU/Linux.ch über das Fediverse schreiben, mal spezielle Projekte vorstellen, mal von Veranstaltungen berichten, mal einen Blick auf die Meta-Ebene vagen - es gibt jedenfalls genug zu berichten, dass ich eine Weile beschäftigt bin :D

Stop trying to get people to come to #mastodon as if it’s any better than #bluesky. This place has deep, WEIRD issues it needs to address. Not only do you have the same (if not WORSE) problems with racism, general creepiness, and platforming known sociopaths, you also have the detriment of being confusing on a technical level.

It’s Liberal racism (masto) vs Corporate racism (BS) and ALL will lose in the long run unless you address it. As is with every site, ever.

I just want to inform you all that I've decided to grant you total freedom of post length, within your specified server limit. I release you from interrogation and scrutiny as to detail level and subject matter range. Your interests are valid, even though I might not agree with them or like them. Even the ones which reveal an uncomfortable and even - gasp - affronting level of technical depth. Geeks and nerds, after all, are a strong majority of the Mastodon users. Is there any project where you can host your own instance of something that's *like* old deviantart, but also activitypub compatible?

So like, the ability to follow and be followed, plus uploading images, but also a customisable gallery of those images, and customisable homepage for users?
