Clearing out all the past-their-prime zinnias from the front garden bed yesterday and this giant swallowtail showed up and hung around the lantana long enough for me to go grab my camera.

I am a master of my craft. If you're looking for a plant list. Here's what I've taken with me after a lifetime of study and work
Cool: Lentils, Fava beans, Swiss chard, Kale, Spinach.
Warm: Amaranth, Sunflower, Seminole pumpkin, Scarlet runner beans.
Other: Blackberry, Mulberry, Fig, Hazelnut, Alpine strawberry.
Rotate to taste.
This is for whatever the climate zone is in Alabama for the year 2024. Assume it will not be the same for long and adapt accordingly.

Don't waste your time with July and August 🔥🚒

My best gardening discovery of the last few years: Salanova lettuce. It is a head lettuce that grows in small bunches, but if you cut out the core it falls apart into "baby" lettuce pieces.

It is super easy to germinate, and holds in the heat really well without bolting or turning too bitter. I planted this head in March!

The seeds (johnnyseeds.com) are expensive but they are open-pollinated and one plant left to bolt will produce hundreds of seeds for next year. A++
