A small Australian 2026 #flu update. 11JULY2026 🦠It is a 'normal' pre-peak-pandemic start to the 2026 season. That is a really nice change from several past years. In the ~15 days since my last update (26JUN), detections have risen by 9,002. That's a daily rate of 600, up from 549.

With #CDC still director-less, Sec. Kennedy has signed off on #ACIP recommendations to require all #flu vaccine for the US market to be #thimerosal free.
He did not, however, sign off on the ACIP recommendation that everyone get a flu shot. That recommendation is "under review." Ditto a recommendation for use of Merck's new monoclonal to protect babies from #RSV.

if there is one thing i’ve learned from the pandemic is that #LongCOVID isn't unique; that other viral infections ―especially #influenza― can leave us with long-term chronic illnesses after we’ve “gotten over” the infection.
got me thinking when did i start feeling achy all the time? am almost certain i developed #fibromyalgia after a bad #flu infection, turned into “walking” #pneumonia in the 1990s.
can we correlate the explosion of chronic diseases with the normalization of #flu infections?
