A. Parody of the the pre-standardized USA flag called "Don't tread on me" with the same yellow background, but with the words "don't spy on me" instead and it is a outline of Jimothy who is a weirdly shaped raccoon standing on grass using a saw to topple a pole that has an array of flock surveillance cameras on top of it.

I need the power of the #fediverse : For an upcoming presentation I am looking for examples many people will understand where the software caused consumer electronic devices not to work anymore.

E.g. company decided not to update the software which caused the device to stop, company disappeared and e.g. servers not available and therefore the device did not start anymore, etc.

Currently interested in some fresh examples I could use. Any pointers?

PieFed 1.7.9 includes Anubis-like scraper blocking AI scrapers have been hammering fediverse servers for years with things getting especially intense lately. Fediverse developers have been slow to respond with solutions so desperate instance admins have been bolting on Anubis which is fragile and really hard to configure in a way that doesn’t break federation, mobile clients or web UI access. Anubis forces browsers to run some CPU-heavy javascript for a few seconds, increasing the cost to scrapers hopefully to the point where they go elsewhere instead. PieFed now includes that functionality as a core feature, not a separate container, proxy or process that needs to be set up. Just set the ANOOBIS environment variable and you’re done. Yes, that spelling is intentional. The amount of work a client needs to do can be tuned with the ANOOBIS_DIFFICULTY_DESKTOP and ANOOBIS_DIFFICULTY_MOBILE environment variables - the defaults are quite weak. Early results are very promising and a 50% CPU and network reduction on the server is commonly seen. Clients that are not logged in will see a brief loading screen, once every 1000 days, before being taken to the post they were trying to view. I’m sure this isn’t the end of this war but I’ve been enjoying a respite from it for the last week, long may it continue. (Image supplied by @dosdude@retrofed.com, thank you!) Page · piefed.social

Juliette died last night. She was 13.

In June I posted a photo of her in a yellow unicorn party hat and called it her "second" birthday. A year before that I had spent a weekend doing some kind of CPR on her and writing her heart rate down every 30 minutes, certain she would not see Monday.

She saw fourteen more months. She walked, she ate, she ran around the flat like nothing had happened.

That post: https://dol.social/@dima/116782367532858418

Thank you to everyone who wrote something kind under it. I went back and read all of it again today.

This photo is from a boat on Lake Lucerne. A third of her life she spent here in Switzerland, and on every walk it was obvious who was walking whom.

She always got her way. She never backed down from anything, not once, not until yesterday.

A view through the window of a passenger boat. A man in a black coat and black beanie stands on the open deck holding a black and tan dachshund wrapped in a cream knitted sweater. Both are looking out across the water. Behind them is Lake Lucerne with snow-covered mountains including Pilatus, a shoreline of bare poplars, snowy fields and town buildings, under a partly cloudy sky.

ATENCIÓN ⚠️ Mis servicios web dejarán de estar disponibles pronto.

A partir del primero de diciembre de 2026 mis servicios web basados en software libre dejarán de funcionar. Los servicios que se verán afectados por esto son los siguientes:

SearXNG (https://search.autumn64.xyz/)
Redlib (https://redlib.autumn64.xyz/)
Lingva (https://translate.autumn64.xyz/)

¡Muchas gracias!

I've sometimes thought about building a service combining #OSM and the #Fediverse, to talk with people in the same region.

It would be 100% anonymous: a dedicated account, with no link to your existing Fedi identity, and why not #E2EE for messages.

No exact location: posts are attached to the nearest town, so neither the server nor other users see your coordinates.

Anonymity could be what makes people comfortable enough to talk with people around them. Everyone stays in a safe place.

RE: https://mastodon.ar.al/@aral/117036096486689894

Dear @Codeberg,

According to the anonymous Linux-Is-Best account, I am a scammer and Gaza Verified (https://gaza-verified.org), which I made and help run, is a scam, and every person from Gaza we verified using video calls – all 303 of them, by last count¹ – is also a scammer.

(Please see: https://codeberg.org/Codeberg/Community/issues/2971)

This presents a problem because I am also a part of the Codeberg organisation as an active member with voting rights.

And the Gaza Verified source code is hosted on Codeberg:
https://codeberg.org/small-web/gaza-verified.org

(We’re clearly a very transparent scam operation that believes in FOSS, etc.)

So, if Linux-Is-Best is right, you are harbouring a known scammer in your organisation. Furthermore, by allowing the source code of the scam on your site, you could be held liable if you know of the scam but do nothing about it.

So, please:

1. Either remove me as an active member (and give me notice so I can cancel my direct debit and have time to migrate my account and projects elsewhere), or

2. Take down the libellous claims by this anonymous troll who is causing real harm to people facing genocide in Gaza (and who is thus, himself, complicit in genocide).

So I’m either a scammer and I should not be allowed to be part of the Codeberg organisation or the anonymous Linux-Is-Best is a libellous, genocide-complicit troll and should not be welcome at Codeberg. Because both of these cannot be true at the same time.

I’ll leave it to you to decide who you would rather want associated with Codeberg.

It shouldn’t be a very difficult decision to make.

If you're into photography, there is a free open Flickr-style photography platform which you can host yourself called Vernissage. It also has Fediverse compatibility so people can follow Vernissage accounts from Mastodon, Pixelfed etc. More info at:

You can follow at:

🌱 @vernissage

For techy people who want to install their own Vernissage manually, docs are at:

Hei!

Velkommen!
