Evidently, I ruffled some feathers of a certain sort of people on a "Quiet Public" discussion by saying something that's not even that crazy.

They're reporting me en masse, even reporting posts that are completely unrelated to that discussion. They're seething because they can't accept that not everyone is going to have the same opinion on the Fediverse.

They want an echo chamber. Don't let them have it. Stand for digital freedom.

i'm a serial #fediverse instance creator (and destroyer) and have been doing this since 2018. many will already be familiar with my name or my avatar.

i'm the father of two awesome kids. i love watching and talking about #movies. i'm a #gamer. i eat to #run. i'm a giant #starwars and #startrek nerd. i'm a born and raised #engineer.

Now I am curious, what's our #Filipino word for #Fediverse and #SocialWeb ?

So far, I these for potential Filipino translation of "Fediverse":

- bigkisberso (bigkis + uniberso)
- sansinukob = used in Filipino astronomy and literature to refer to the "universe" (I personally like this one)
- bukob (buklod + sukob) = just my invention

Other suggestions?

Since we're talking about the Filipino language (not Tagalog language), this means all Philippine languages are valid. We can combine them together, even use the 6th vowel /ë/.

But how about "Social Web"?

I was told that the Filipino for "Internet" is "daigbatan". I'm just not sure though since I can't find information on "batan" other than:

- Original name of Bataän was Batan, a Spanish word for "log" (🪵) which the province was named after by the Spaniards.
- The Ivatan people call themselves in the Ivatan language as "Batan". (Yes, Batanes = Isles of [the] Batan [people]. Batan + Isles (just my theory, but it makes logical sense 😝))

So, I'm not sure why "Internet" is "daigbatan".

My thought process is, "social web" could be:
- liponbatan = literally social network
- daiglipon = lit. world social; web social

Tiny Mastodon Tip About Quote Posts 📢

If your instance is already running the newly released version Mastodon 4.4,

Know that in preparation for the full implementation, the team has included a consent setting for the upcoming Quote Post feature.

While quoting a post will not
be available as a native feature until Mastodon 4.5 later this year, it's wonderful that you can adjust if you want in or not before it even arrives!

HOW TO❓

1. From the web interface, go to "Preferences" on the right-side menu. Then click on "Other" under the "Preferences" section

2. If your instance was newly updated, you should now see an option in "Posting Defaults" for "Who can quote" (see image below) 👇

Note: If the option isn't there, your instance has not updated to the version including it yet. Be patient, it will likely be added in the weeks to come.

3. From the "Who can quote" drop-menu, you can choose either "Everyone", "Followers and mentioned users", or "Only mentioned users"

4. Once the next version is released, you will be ready for Quote Posts! No matter your choices 💪

5. Enjoy the freedom of choosing the features you wish to participate in (or not)! 😌✨

O documentário Amanhã Vai Ser Maior está no Fediverso!

Participei da produção de um documentário sobre a violência policial sofrida por estudantes catarinenses por causa das manifestações o aumento das tarifas de transporte público em Florianópolis em 2005. A edição foi feita no calor dos protestos, de forma colaborativa por cinegrafistas e comunicadores independentes que juntaram seus registros em uma narrativa eletrizante. Entre as gravações, tem alguma coisa minhas, mas o que mais me orgulha na obra – além do valor histórico, é claro – foi a trilha sonora, que eram os MP3 que eu carregava no meu celular na época ;-}

Por conta dos 20 anos da produção e das manifestações, a Campanha pela Tarifa Zero em Floripa realizou uma projeção  e debate sobre o vídeo no dia 4 de fevereiro, que contou com a minha participação, do Vinícius Moscão (que editou e também coproduziu o vídeo) e da Flora, que era militante do Movimento Passe Livre na época.

Também para marcar o período e para divulgar campanha pela Tarifa Zero em Florianópolis – que hoje (17/2), apresentou um Projeto de Lei popular de transporte público gratuito na cidade – um perfil de divulgação as produções audiovisuais do Grupo Expressão Sarcástica (meu saudoso coletivo nos anos 2000), lançou o documentário Amanhã Vai Ser Maior no Fediverso. Fediverse is still the most lively social network I have ever used, since MySpace in 2003. It is better than Twitter or any commercial social media platform ever was. Absolutely love being here.

The most profound thing about it is the international coverage. After the first wave of enshittification in 2010, algorithms took over, and suddenly as a polyglot I was labeled as Finnish. No more visible international posts, people only saw the Finnish ones.

I've noticed the same effect in commercial AI. It ignores the fact that I use English online 99% of the time and still replies to me in Finnish despite all instructions. Algorithms and AI label you. They assign you a language, a status, a certain type of person. There's no changing that.

The Fediverse and Mastodon are delightfully mine, yours, and truly open source - respecting privacy. Nobody's machine can tell you, "You are this, and this is why we do that."

Fuck labelers and the fog machines. Let me be me. Here, on my own server, I can embrace my weirdness and post however I want, how often I want, whenever I want, in whatever language I choose - without constantly worrying about how my identity will be perceived by a machine.
