<p>We have received a Copyright claim from Amazon for our <span class="h-card"><a href="https://framapiaf.org/@peertube" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>peertube</span></a></span> instance <a href="https://videos.trom.tf/" rel="nofollow">videos.trom.tf/</a> . Hetzner, the hosting company where we have the dedicated server at, gave us 24h to resolve it.</p><p>The problem?</p><p>The video in question, a documentary about &quot;aliens&quot;, a garbage piece of content, was NOT hosted on our instance, of course. But since Peertube is federated the idiots sent the claim to our hosting company. Even if UNDER the video you can see that video is &quot;Posted By:&quot; and the instance and username. It takes a few seconds to see where the video is hosted.</p><p>But who cares...maybe Amazon has &quot;AI Agents&quot; employed and they simply find a video of theirs on a URL and see the IP of that URL and submit a Copyright claim to the hosting where that domain is registered?!</p><p>Bunch of idiots.</p><p>But it is very concerning the fact that they can do these and we, the ones who hosts (and for free for that matter), need to quickly &quot;fix&quot; these things even if the claim has nothing to do with our server.</p><p>We eventually had to block that URL, thanks Peertube for allowing that, else these idiots cannot understand that it was not us who were hosting that video.</p><p><a href="/tags/peertube/" rel="tag">#peertube</a> <a href="/tags/fedi/" rel="tag">#fedi</a> <a href="/tags/fediverse/" rel="tag">#fediverse</a></p>

<p>A friend of mine, <span class="h-card"><a href="https://siliconbeest.sjang.dev/@siliconsjang" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>siliconsjang</span></a></span>, released SiliconBeest v1.0.0 today. It&#x27;s a <a href="/tags/fediverse/" rel="tag">#fediverse</a> server built on <a href="/tags/cloudflare/" rel="tag">#Cloudflare</a> Workers, D1, R2, and Queues, using Fedify.</p><p>I like the starting point: after watching fediverse servers go down together during Cloudflare outages, they thought, why not just run on Cloudflare directly?</p><p>They&#x27;re aiming for something cheap enough that a small instance can stay on Cloudflare&#x27;s free plan, and a somewhat bigger one can fit in the $5/month tier. It&#x27;s still early; a lot is missing, and Mastodon/Misskey API compatibility is more of a long-term goal.</p><p>I&#x27;m glad to see Fedify put to use for something like this. <p>What worked at 100 users broke at 5,000</p><p>Recent events have made me realise something.</p><p>In the early days, when PieFed was tiny (it’s still tiny I guess) me being really engaged with the community was a huge strength. I knew immediately what was going on and could release a fix/change really fast and people loved that. In contrast it made the other projects and their devs seem slow and distant.</p><p>It worked great. For quite a while.</p><p>But now PieFed has thousands of users and there are haters and there are bugs and there are feature requests, etc etc and now what used to be a strength has become a danger and a weakness. Me jumping onto every issue and responding every time someone @ rimu’s me drags me into stuff, destroys my focus and leaves me on the verge of burnout. If people can troll me into behaving erratically (they can!) then it stalls my work and when I behave badly it makes the whole project look bad.</p><p>Now I understand why larger projects’ devs keep some distance. It’s the only way to keep working while the storm rages outside.</p><p>It looks like I’m going to have to put in some insulating layers between me and the wider fediverse. Defined communication channels for feature requests, places to report bugs, delegate to others some/more of the community management, put together a FAQ and more docs, and so on.</p><p>There will have to be some debates, issues and conspiracy theories that are left alone and not debunked by me personally. Internet chatter is just not something I can be putting as much time into as I used to. Realistically that point was passed months ago but I lacked the experience needed to spot it at the time. </p><p>Although unpleasant for me personally this growth is a good problem for PieFed to have. It just means my focus and strategy needs to change, to protect my attention &amp; energy and serve the community as well as I can over the long term. </p><a href="/tags/fediverse/" rel="tag">#fediverse</a> <a href="/tags/foss/" rel="tag">#FOSS</a> <a href="/tags/piefed/" rel="tag">#piefed</a>

<p>I am a Disabled freelancer that has various offline and online bills. I&#x27;ve done a lot to educate others about accessibility on the <a href="/tags/fediverse/" rel="tag">#Fediverse</a> and still do, but before there was a vast blind population on here, I did a lot to contribute my knowledge and helped with documentation and development. I do not work, so your support would be a huge help!
