Visiting the local patch this evening to find some inner peace. Sat down the edge of a field of reed, watching some bumblebees. Looking up I met de eye of a female reed bunting, calmly sitting in the reed.

100x100mm lemonwood block engraved with a stonechat perched on a young, growing and unfurling, bracken frond, with a foreground of bracken and other plants, receding through shrubs along a path to a stile in a drystone wall, with more moorland beyond. On my recent walk home I spotted this small Dark-eyed Junco perching on a wire fence and "playing both sides of the fence" came to mind or The Rolling Stones song "Sitting On a Fence" LOL; I loved the perspective, the striking visual, the juxtaposition of nature and manmade object for this playful snap.

Birds are amazing. But considering how much of my life I've spent watching and studying them, I've thought surprisingly little about just how incredible feathers are. Talking to engineers who still can't build anything to match a feather gave me a whole new understanding and appreciation for these absolute marvels of evolution.

I saw this nest the other day in an apple tree and it seemed new but had no eggs in it. It looked like a house finch nest. Today when I was propping up the branch the nest was in I saw an American robin sitting in it. It left so I took a photo to see if there were any eggs in it and there were two. It still looks like a house finch nest, no mud!
