The study shows a male model, drawn in the nude, seated in a twisting contrapposto with one arm raised and the torso spiraling. The legs are firmly planted, while the upper body rotates dynamically, creating a sense of tension and release. This male nude was later transformed into the female Libyan Sibyl in the Sistine ceiling.

The only surviving image that may depict Anne Hathaway (1555/56 - 6 August 1623), the wife of William Shakespeare, is a portrait line-drawing made by Sir Nathaniel Curzon in 1708, referred to as "Shakespear's Consort". It was drawn on the verso of the original title page in the Third Folio (1663) of Shakespeare's works located in the Colgate University Libraries, Special Collection and University Archives, Hamilton, NY.

It shows a woman in bust-length, facing slightly to one side. Her attire is plain but proper: she wears a gown with a square neckline and a headdress or cap, consistent with early 17th-century fashions. The lines are clean but not highly detailed.
