After crying my eyes out during my therapy session yesterday, because I feel trapped in a vicious circle for more than a decade by now, my therapist said something very validating to me.
The vicious circle I talked about was, that I need a different, more supportive environment, different people to get out of burnout, to actively create the life I want and that suits my needs as an AuDHD person, to be financially independent, but to achieve that, to get out of the situation I am in, I would need a different, more supportive environment, different people and so on...
She replied, that it’s difficult for everyone to find their place in this world, to create the life they want and need, but for autistic people, it is extremely difficult to find this place, their niche, that makes a suitable life possible.
That felt very validating to me, it makes me reflect on the decisions (some of them were not the best ones) I made during my life from a kinder, more forgiving perspective. I already developed that perspective after I found out, that I am autistic, but to be validated by her yesterday, helped me in the ongoing process of letting go of internalized shame and ableism.
