Just found out that #BeagleIM automatically fetches web links in messages and plays the page's video if there is one.
This is not acceptable behavior!!!
* It's annoying. There isn't any obvious way to stop the video.
* It's insecure. The linked page might attack vulnerabilities in Beagle's video player.
* It exposes the user's IP address to anyone who sends them a message, potentially physically endangering them.
Will uninstall and replace ASAP.

Eigentlich nutzt #WhatsApp doch das ganz bekannte und eigentlich offne #XMPP Protokoll. War im Herbst nicht mal die Rede davon, dass WhatsApp nicht Schnittstellen schaffen muss, um Chats auch mit anderen Clients zu ermöglichen? Habe es eben getestet und habe nur #Birdychat gefunden. Sehr ernüchternt. Mal sehen ob das mal besser wird. .. und vielleicht auch wirklich offen, dass ich mein geliebtes #Pidgin für #Jabber wieder dafür nutzen kann. Offen für alles.
Hace no mucho, en el grupo “#DOCENC”, que tenemos en #XMPP, nos enviaron algo que despertó mi interés. Alguien compartió unos sellos cuyo propósito es emplearlos como marcadores para indicar cuándo algo se ha creado sin la intervención de inteligencias artificiales generativas (#IAGen ). Los primeros en ser compartidos fueron los de “#notbyAI”, pero a mi me parecieron demasiado simplones. Luego alguien compartió unos nuevos creados por Hinokodo, pero se centra mucho en la afirmativa del ser humano y no en la negativa de las IAGen. Y luego alguien nos pasó otro enlace, del repositorio Edit.org, donde hay un buen puñado, pero todas se me antojaban simples, como creadas a partir de imágenes rediseñadas.
Como ninguna me convencía, me propuse crear mis propios diseños. ¿Por qué no? Así que le pedí consejo a @Irashila, y con sus comentarios me puse manos a la obra. Este es el resultado.

How can I get #conversations_im and #gajim and #dino_im to notice from each other when I blocked a user?
Currently I have to block and close the same annoying spam chat on each device / in each app separately. Is that normal or should I complain to my server admin? (*duck*).
I can't be the first one wishing for an XEP for this 😉.

Hi #xmpp #devops #adminsys folks, I’m looking for a way to push #monitoring messages to an XMPP MUC room via a #webhook. I already have an Apprise instance that forwards these messages to an #IRC channel, but unfortunately, #Apprise no longer supports XMPP, and I’d like to avoid using a #bridge.
Any suggestions or tools that could #help? Thanks in advance!

Aktuell funktioniert der XMPP Webchat auf unserer Webseite nicht. Grund ist ein Zertifikatsfehler des CDN-Servers von converse.js. Wir hoffen, das ist bald behoben.

How hard is it to propose an #XMPP XEP?
Right now it seems name changes are applied retroactively to past messages, or at least Gajim does it that way. This means we can't use our display name to indicate who is talking.
@skyweird::gryphon says that didn't used to be the case when they were using XMPP back in the day? Which means someone came along and fucking changed the semantics of namechanges out from under everyone? (Which by the way, over in Matrix land they're trying to do /exactly/ that. There's a setting to retroactively apply name changes in Element now. It's /on by default/ IIRC. I bet one day they'll remove it.)
We need a way to embed your name into the message itself. That embedded name overrides whatever your global/per-room display name is. Singlets can leave it off and have their retroactive name changes; we can enforce actually seeing our names like they should be.
(Of course it's possible to infer the correct name from the chat history, which is what clients did before, but that's only reliable as long as some jackass doesn't come along and change the semantics out from under you, nuking the names on years of chat history... embedding the name would be a very clear signal "HEY, KEEP THIS NAME".)
