I have a lot of respect for #DeltaChat (@delta); By all accounts they provide a good looking client and a homogenize experience across platforms. Users absolutely don’t need to care about the underlying protocol!

However there is no way, shape or form in that IMAP+Submission is a more suitable stack for instant messaging than #XMPP.

We are seeing a nice uptick in Brazilian #fediverse instances enabling #xmpp for their members. They even gave it a funny new nickname: #Xampu (Shampoo in English, but it kinda sounds like you could pronounce XMPP in Brazilian Portuguese).

Anyone who used both Dino and Psi(+), how the first one compares to the second? 🤔

Sobre a crescente do #XMPP Brasileiro @xmpp

Muito tem se falado sobre o trabalho dos admins, mas acho que tão importante quanto são todos os que topam ser early adopters, isso não é uma tarefa fácil.

Todos os incentivadores aqui tem um peso enorme pra que a plataforma se torne viável.

Tenho cerebro de passarinho então não dá pra citar todos sem esquecer de alguém, mas sou muito grato a cada um que deu uma chance pra esse meio de comunicação descentralizado e livre.

Porém, algumas pessoas que se destacaram, pra mim, pela participação massiva, e fomentação dos grupos e faço questão de lembrar são @rodias e @Ylyej qualquer dia quero poder dar um abraço em vcs, camaradas!

I’m sure I missed a lot of things, but since the only reference on the topic is the - now defunct - infosec handbook website with the "admin in the middle" article, I guess that could be useful to somebody.

Kaidan 0.10.1 was released. This version brings media sharing and new message marker fixes.

Kaidan is a user-friendly and modern chat app for every device. It uses the open communication protocol XMPP (Jabber). Unlike other chat apps, you are not dependent on one specific service provider.

I installed #pidgin for my #xmpp server and BOY does it feel like late 90s early 2000s. So nostalgic. Dunno if that was on purpose. lol

I've seen a lot of people talking about leaving #WhatsApp. Great!

Only, don't replace one WhatsApp with another.

#Signal and #Threema are centralized services, and just as vulnerable to #enshittification as Twitter or WA.

Instead, use a platform that's standardized and federated - #XMPP, a.k.a. #Jabber.

The easiest way to use it is to install #Quicksy from the Play Store, App Store, or F-Droid.

Eu gostaria de um conselho para voltar a usar o #XMPP.

Provavelmente vou usar um aplicativo Android ou Web na maior parte do tempo, mas eu gostaria de ter um aplicativo para Linux também, para eu manter uma cópia das conversas numa pasta incluída na rotina de backup.

Preciso tomar algum cuidado especial para as conversas em um aplicativo também aparecerem nos demais? E/ou para eu conseguir guardar uma cópia dessas conversas?

The only relevant feature for any instant messaging app (or social app, for that matter) is: Are my friends using it? People will gladly overlook minor inconsistencies or missing features as long as they can communicate with their friends. We shouldn’t recommend #Signal as a stepping stone before Jabber/XMPP becomes "good enough," if goodness is defined by the number of people using it.

Gotta love how there’s a single nice, modern XMPP client for desktop and its encryption scheme is incompatible with every other XMPP client. Nice things just weren’t meant to be had, were they?

On my recent #Lufthansa flight, I noticed their free messaging plan on FlyNet Wi-Fi allows #XMPP traffic (likely via port 5223), but HTTP uploads were blocked. So, I added a new feature to #Conversations_im that lets users retry failed uploads via Jingle P2P file transfer, which will fall back to IBB if needed. Can’t wait to test it on the return flight! ✈️
