The rest of us are watching Spider-Man and playing Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake.
I made a joke about Whalefall's ending being that the diver kills the whale and becomes the next whale and then I said "just like [insert Japanese video game here]". And now I'm trying to think about how often it actually does happen as the "twist" ending or reveal in video games. It doesn't have to be Japanese, it's just all the examples I've thought of have been Japanese xD
If you have an example of "hero kills the villain/monster only to become it themselves" (literally, not figuratively) in gaming reply with it here (use spoilers if necessary).
One could argue that by moving from one DRM-restricted walled garden like PlayStation or Xbox to Steam is not a real solution since Steam is the same in that one does not truly own their purchases, you’re only buying a license to play the game.
Everyone trusts Valve now, but remember when everyone was up in arms about Xbox not allowing for the reselling of game discs? Remember Sony’s brutal video on how to share games on PS4 using discs? Everyone celebrated and trusted Sony then, now 13 years later?
I don’t work for GOG, but I do think they are doing things right for gamers — selling games that are DRM-free and come with offline installers. This way when I buy a game, I own the game. They might not have the latest AAA titles, but games that were fun before are still fun today — and the benefit is that they’re cheaper and fully patched up.
Let’s not keep supporting businesses that don’t let us own what we buy digitally.

- the nintendo switch 1 has an accessory called the "flip grip" that allows you to use it when rotated vertically
- the nintendo switch 1 has an active modding community which has ported ubuntu and fedora to it
- if your switch was made before 2019 it has a hardware vulnerability that makes it extremely easy to install these mods.
- these mods only exist in memory and on the sd card, so at any point you can just reboot your switch and it will go back to its unmodded state.
