English physicist and radio astronomer Bernard Lovell was born #OTD in 1913.
He is best known for his contributions to the development of airbone radar (particularly on the magnetron) during World War II. He was also the founder of Jodrell Bank Observatory. The centerpiece of the observatory was the Lovell Telescope, completed in 1957. At the time, it was the largest steerable radio telescope in the world.

So Mozilla has apparently just reconsidered their stance on JPEG XL! That is, going from ‘nope lol’ to ‘rust ftw lol’. Which reads like a rather ungraceful turnaround, but it is a turnaround, so… kudos to Mozilla for correcting some of their wrongs! 
(They say the requirement is for memory safety, which seems fair enough, but I do wonder why they needed three freaking years just to decide this was their main concern. Yay for efficiency, I guess.)
