<p>As a pacifist, what I love most about the Fediverse is how it feels like a shared search for peace. We have Caturday, when everyone posts cat pictures every Saturday. There's Mosstodon, which is all about sharing beautiful photos of moss and nature. And we have SilentSunday, where people post calm outdoor and nature photos. <p>Hello World! <br>I'm lucky to have made it this far in life avoiding <a href="/tags/socialmedia/" rel="tag">#socialmedia</a> sites- so why not make the inevitable misstep slightly less bad by having my first platform be the 'good' one? <p>We’re reading “the Sirens’ Call” by MSNBC commentator Chris Hayes. The book brings together several themes that interest me: the evils of <a href="/tags/surveillancecapitalism/" rel="tag">#surveillancecapitalism</a>; disinformation on <a href="/tags/socialmedia/" rel="tag">#socialmedia</a>; <a href="/tags/privacy/" rel="tag">#privacy</a> rights; and how our personal freedom is harmed by abuses in these areas.</p><p>He quotes Phaedrus, a book I’ve always meant to read since encountering it in Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance decades ago. Maybe now I will.</p>
<p>I'm going to take a break from <a href="/tags/socialmedia/" rel="tag">#SocialMedia</a> for a few months. It's interfering with my efforts to better myself, and it's filling my mind with negativity.</p><p>Something I've been pondering: several of the wealthiest people in the world are totally addicted to social media. That implies that they aren't "the elite" of society, but rather pathetic losers, despite their wealth.</p><p>Imagine how much worse of a situation we'd be in if those same billionaires worked very hard and weren't full of self-pity.</p>
<p>We added our Vivaldi Social server to the Fediverse on November 15th 2022. We are still, I believe, the only browser company that is fully behind the Fediverse. It is something we are very proud of! <p>Interesting article. I guess the problem is about trying to fix the symptoms instead of the actual problem. A big issue is that the algorithms in use by Big Tech social media companies tends to favor content like this. If not, we would all just stop following people that share stuff like this.
