Many bare trees in the Aamsveen which are reflected in the bog creating a multitude of vertical lines.

The Aamsveen is a protected, raised bog area around the Dutch-German border. It covers more than 875 hectares (2150+ acres).

A very old Catalpa tree. It’s November, so there are no leaves, the sky is gray, and the ground is brown. The limbs are magnificently gnarled, and the trunk … well imagine you could take a normal tree trunk and twist and twist and twist it, almost like a soft-serve ice cream. Only twistier. In the distance beyond the tree, an old white church is visible. It has pillars at the top of the wide entrance steps, and a tall steeple. If you magnify the image greatly, you can see that a very large Black Lives Matter flag hangs above the entry doors.

The leaves were pasted to the trail with mud and the canopy above was just letting all the rain through.</p><p>Plenty of solitude and foggy views. Very <a href="/tags/silentsunday/" rel="tag">#silentsunday</a> themed.</p><p>I just wanted a hot shower and warm house afterwards.</p>

Went to the Palace of Fine Arts on Friday night to celebrate my son’s 14th birthday with a candy-themed, combination mini-golf escape room event. (I know… it was quite a ‘thing’.) After we were finished, we thirsty golfers went in search of some water fountains way back inside the building ...and happened upon the bones of the old Exploratorium(!) Long-time San Franciscans probably remember when it was out by that beautiful structure originally built for the 1915 Panama–Pacific International Exposition? Well, the Exploratorium occupied the large warehouse structure that curves behind the monument—and this photo is taken from deep within the bowels of that building. Alongside towering sculptures of figures originally featured outside (and a giant fireplace for some reason?) this photo is of one of the remaining bathrooms left over from the Exploratorium days. Warm yellowish light emanating from a small square opening in a deep midnight-blue wall, with a glowing men/women sign guiding the way. Above the bathroom is a towering metal structure and geometric concrete support pillars reaching far, far up to the roof out-of-frame. In the foreground the shiny black concrete reflects the very moody warm orange light of the bathroom towards the camera, almost beckoning us to enter and do our business. Anyhow, the water fountain is to the right of this if you’re interested. San Francisco’s delicious Hetch Hetchy water on tap for pure refreshment. Enjoy!
