Making #Reddit the default engine for a few days was entertaining, to say the least 😆
#Trump Is Getting #Slammed for #antiTrans #Pledge on #Reddit, saying he would #rollback #transgender #rights on “day one” in #office if he is #reelected.
A #commenter summed it up perfectly, “Imagine being so #hateful that this is a #Day1 priority.”

It “only” took me a few years to find out that I don’t need to have a PeerTube or Lemmy account to interact with them; I just need to copy/paste the link in Mastodon search and then follow or reply.
Why no one is saying this little detail FIRST to all the n00bs coming from the Horror socials? After this you can explain the fediverse; Now Activity Pub makes so much sense to an atechnical person.

Atenção, fediverso! 📢
Agora temos uma casa no Bluesky para quem também está por lá. Nosso perfil é @lemmy.eco.br

Hi, Chris!
I look forward to the AMA.
This lady wants to know whether she'll need something stronger than Shark's Facial Pro Glow beauty product.
You might like to ask your advertising department anything about the value of product placement.

It's really frustrating to see places like /r/selfhosted just being bombarded with "I made this project..." AI generated posts for AI generated slop projects. I used to find new stuff to play with daily and now... the flood is so great that it's murdering the subreddit. Ugh.
🐭 Real question:
Sometimes I read negative comments about #Lemmy or even calls to defederate...
Why do some people on the #Fediverse feel so strongly about Lemmy?
Isn't an #opensource alternative to #Reddit a good thing?
📣 Happy #GlobalSwitchDay to all the brave frontrunners out there!
For whom February 1st came a little too soon, don't worry! Just try again on March 1st and celebrate Zero Discrimination Day in the beautiful #fediverse. Alternatively, you can switch on April 1st, as only fools stay behind ;) or join your friends on May 1st and put your ideals to work.
Help spread the word.

Someone should tell Reddit that there is Lemmy (and mastodon, of course)
They will never have enough data about you.
They will always ask for more.
That's how they feed the billionaires.
Leave and delete corporate social media.
Before they eat you whole.

Reddit rolls out age verification in the UK to comply with new rules
Reddit users in the United Kingdom are now required to verify their age as a way to prevent children from accessing inappropriate content.
The new requirement comes after the UK’s Online Safety Act (OSA) introduced new steps for platformsto block children from encountering harmful content, like pornography and material promoting self-harm.
Age verification is creating an information desert.
The Online Safety Act sets every UK user to child as default.
Teenagers? Blocked. Adults? Content denied unless we do age checks with unregulated companies.
It's not just porn! News on Gaza and Ukraine is being scrubbed from view, threatening #freedomofexpression as well as #privacy ⛔

Even #Bluesky, a supposed alternative to the decaying toxic mess known as X, is a giant data trap.
“In April 2025, Bluesky raised $100 million in Series B funding led by Bain Capital Crypto”
“The Atmosphere currently contains about 20 billion public records—the posts, likes, comments and other interactions” (including blocks + mutelists are public lists).
Anyone who doesn’t see the next move needs only look to #Reddit.
Thanks @_elena for drawing attention to this.

Reddit: humans welcome (bots must wear name tags)

"… Before there was AI slop, there was slop. It’s not a new problem, and it’s one that Reddit, with its voting and moderation system, is better than most at dealing with.
Things are changing quickly, and we’ll adapt as best we can. We welcome any thoughts and criticism."
TIL two things:
1/ share.google is banned by Reddit
2/ this ban appears to be soft.
Whilst the pictured comment is neither approved nor removed, the link to the banned domain is visible to the public.

Google's AI Overview has the correct order for the listed steps – despite at least one of its three sources putting things in the wrong order.
For the benefit of people who love to facefart the words "AI slop" wherever there's a hint of artificial intelligence: I'll describe the wrongness in this case as natural human slop. …

I've been enjoying reading article found on Bubbles.Town - its a bit of the hacker news model of upvoting but for indie-web blogs written by real people - none of which I've seen have a monetary incentive, paywall, pop-up, or other enshittified nonsense.
Id love to see more people voting and commenting on articles, and you can connect your existing fediverse account - you don't need to create a new one or anything!
I just deleted my 19 year old #Reddit account.
It's not the first social media account to go. A few years ago I deleted my Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts when I realized that time spent there was wasted, not utilized. Somehow, I convinced myself that Reddit was different. But the truth is that it's not.
The social media I consume:
Facebook, an ad-infested swamp where I sometimes see updates from family and old friends who won't switch platforms.
Reddit, because sometimes I want to inject my eyeballs with algorithm-driven content that also is somewhat user-driven.
BlueSky, which has interesting perspectives from otherwise intelligent people who somehow think Mastodon is "too hard."
Mastodon, which I see as simply the *real* internet.
