My favourite photo of the week - Field Forget-me-not growing on a grassy bit which one of the local business parks is encouraging to grow as wildflowers. Smaller and paler flowers than the hulking big garden escapes I see more often in urban #Swindon. #WildflowerHour #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography

Several clusters of pale blue flowers on top of a stem which is covered in short hairs. Some of the flowers are in the process of opening; these are pink rather than blue, the blue colour developing once they're fully open.

For as often as I tromp around in the woods I have never found Ghost Pipes THIS color. From what I see online, it’s a rare variant of the usually whitish/pinkish Monotropa uniflora.

One of my favorite discoveries this summer!

Approximately 15 Ghost Pipes, or Corpse Plants are growing straight up from the forest floor. Whereas the majority of these plants in North America are white or pink or sometimes yellowish, these are licorice red. They resemble red asparagus complete with the little notches on their stem. At the top they have lantern shaped flowers, that normally drop downward, but these are pollinated so they stand erect.

A bizarrely twisted tree in a sunlit woodland clearing, surrounded by a carpet of dry brown leaves. The tree curls back down on itself, its thick branches snaking tightly around its own trunk and curling into the ground. The general appearance is beautifully monstrous, as though the branches were tentacles. A roughly circular scar on the bark where you might expect to see an eye, if this were a creature, strengthens its Cthulhu-like vibes. A few metres beyond it are ferns and upright trees.

Cleaned up and moved the dormant Drosera paradoxa (sundew) into a new pot. It's in an open glass container until the ambient humidity in this room goes up. This one came out of dormancy mid going into late March last year (see link at https://layer8.space/@chillicampari/112169585969118118), but it can vary. As I am doing with a few other plants, I top dressed it with chopped fresh sphagnum moss that I keep in a jar.
