For those in #Vancouver who (like me) are grumpy about the Broadway subway-construction chaos (hey, the train will be great, totally worthwhile in the big picture) you’ll be happy to hear that at least there are many humans actively employed along that chunk of Broadway.

An orange sun peers through the Canadian wildfire haze of the summer of 2026 at Corolla, NC. As it rises over the calm ocean it casts a warm reflection on the water. Grassy dunes in the foreground add depth to the serene scene.

A week at the ocean is a dream come true for many. All year we save and plan with concerns about weather, wind direction and temperatures always in the back of our minds. Thick haze from the tragic wildfires in Canada's wilderness wasn't on our list of things to worry about. But as it turned out for us, the haze made for magnificent early mornings and soon blew off giving us consistent blue sky days with just the right sea breezes and toasty summertime temperatures.
