Wondering if I wanna keep the ancient HP as an upgrade test bed for FreeBSD since we've already done 2 upgrades, or use it to try out #NetBSD or #OpenBSD? What do you all think?

I wonder if I'd be able to host ( move ) all these services to an #OpenBSD server without using any VM ? Do you think that'd be possible considering port differences and maybe duplicates ? Come on help an old bird out please and don't say promox or FreeBSD jail as I'm using the later already.

Why would I want to do this when I have #OpenBSD running on my Dell tower ? I need help for sure to silence those voices. 🙄

What with all this #Wayland goodness arriving on #OpenBSD allowing me to run the likes of #MangoWM and all those amazing devs who are putting together OpenBSD 7.9 it certainly does feel like "The year of the OpenBSD desktop" to me. I'm living my best life on my computers right now.

Well now it seems #OpenBSD has me beat when trying to wipe and setup a new USB memory stick.
I have never had issues under FreeBSD or Linux before but this is either me being extremely thick or ??

I used dd to wipe the USB then checked it was wiped. Then did the above and it all seems ok as per folk on the web and OpenBSD docs but newfs_extfs just sits there doing nothing.

Anyone help or have a simple idiot sheet of what to do from wiping the USB memory stick to setting up an ext2 partition and formatting it. Mounting it will be the easy part.

Back home from work and my #OpenBSD destktop is now reporting 7.8-current so I can drop the -Dsnap from pkg commands.

Once #OpenBSD 7.8 is released I'll more than likely install it onto my ThinkPad and then switch to current. As I get older I've come to realise that it's not always about the latest and greatest. Just use what you feel comfortable with and what suits your needs.

Tip for those who cannot get MTP working with their LNX or BSD computo - you can connect to android mobilek in unix-y way.
1. Install https://f-droid.org/packages/org.primftpd/ on your android mobilek.
2. Run s-/ftp server on your mobilek.
3. Connect from computo to mobilek by ftp or sftp command.
4. No root needed.

Works for me on OpenBSD. You can also use KDE Connect.

There is no age field in the GECOS data in master.passwd(5) of course, and the reality is that no BSD or Linux-based operating system has this concept of apps/stores/accounts.
