My mum asked the staff at Mordialloc Woolworths about yesterday's machete attack, and they told her they're not allowed to talk about it. I can understand why staff might be told not to tell anyone about it while police are investigating.
But I'm annoyed by the lack of follow-up reporting on violent crimes. Every time one of these attacks happens, I scour the internet for months afterwards looking for information about the motive, whether anyone was charged, and what eventually happened in court. I never find anything, unless it was a murder.
I realise there are legal restrictions on reporting some of this information, particularly when minors are involved, but I think some of these restrictions are excessive. And even allowing for these restrictions, I'm frustrated that I hear so much about these crimes when they happen and so little about what happens afterwards. I think it's in the public interest to know what's going on and why. #Melbourne

Random jolly man at tram stop: “Are you from Melbourne?”
Me, big smile: “I am now!”
Man, smiling more broadly: “It’s great ain’t it?”

La meva #CançóDelDia per al dimecres 8 d'abril és aquesta de la #StellaDonnelly #Melbourne #Cantautora #IndieFolk ☀️!
just updating this – I’m holding off on contacting anyone else just at the moment to give a couple of the orgs I’ve contacted a chance to get back to me. if those don’t work out I’ll contact individual people – I’m trying to keep the overhead of disposal manageable as I’m not local any more & am relying on a friend to provide access
thank you all so much for your interest 💕
hi frens 👋 does anyone in #Melbourne have any contacts who might be interested in #metalworking gear for cheap or free? I’m disposing of my dad’s estate & trying to find good homes for a garage full of equipment, tools, & some scrap metal – including drill presses, a lathe, welders, oxy tanks, etc.…
I’d much rather they go to folks who could make good use of them than have them sold off to a metal scrapper or end up in landfill
if you’re interested or have any leads on someone who might be, pls DM me
ETA: I’ve already contacted quite a few men’s sheds & men’s shed networks in Victoria & the few that I was able to get a response from weren’t able to take anything due to space or focus constraints 😕
pls #boost4reach

Bicycle Network is running a campaign to get 5% of the Victorian transport budget to be allocated to building out the Strategic Cycling Corridors.
All the bicycle user groups are involved and we're trying to get as many people as we can to contact their MP in the next month and ask for this.
We're going to need hundreds of people in every electorate to do this to get anything to change.
Follow this link to find your electorate and the Strategic Cycling Corridors in your area and email your MP.

These new electronic signs on the buses are very useful. The stop buttons weren't working on this bus, though 😕 #ptv #melbourne
I just checked the folder where i keep all my job applications and there are 75 cover letters sitting in there from the past six months. That doesn't include applications I've made using online forms that make you type it in. Heading towards 100 total! I've made it through to being interviewed several times, but have so far always been the runner up. Job hunting is brutal.
Aside from applying for permanent positions i also consult on a freelance basis, providing NFP strategy, codesign, and governance.
Anyway, things are tight (I'm completely f!*%ing broke). If any of you have contacts with non profits and charities in Melbourne that need someone smart and experienced, i would appreciate the lead. Flashy CV available on request.
It felt peaceful seeing oldies in the suburbs out in western #Melbourne feeding bread to pidgeons at the crack of dawn this morning. Even though I'm not particularly fond of pidgeons myself and I mainly watch them being eaten by the Collins Street Falcons. https://youtu.be/oibsohQ14cY
Melbourne Docklands part two: The bad. Nearly a quarter of a century into this urban renewal project, and many parts of it leave a lot to be desired...

Had a great dinner at Simon's Peiking Duck Restaurant in Box Hill South with a friend and went for a stroll in the balmy air.

Food is good and cheap at this Banh Mi shop in St Albans #Melbourne and in fine weather there is a lively group of people drinking coffee outside. They seem to sell a lot of Vietnamese coffee so this might be a good place to buy it if you like it (I just like normal and boring flat white).
