I migrated my Mastodon server from a self-hosted DigitalOcean droplet to an instance provided by Masto.host. The process was straightforward and took less than an hour.
#0ad is possibly one of the most advanced #foss games. It's a multi-platform #RTS historical #game, and there's currently an appimage for #Linux users found at #github (in case #flatpak isn't to your liking).
Plays really smoothly, although it eats my 2015's #Macbook Air's battery (running Linux #Mint) for lunch. We're talking that it has about 30 minutes of overall #gameplay before I need to recharge. CPU utilization is at about 50-60%. @play0ad

Steam just added screen reader support in the latest Big Picture Mode beta. On the Deck. On SteamOS. On Linux.
Not hacked in. Not community-patched. Built-in. From Valve.
There's an accessibility tab. There's a screen reader. There's high-contrast mode, UI scaling, color filters, reduced motion, and more.
I can’t believe I’m saying this but: I need a Steam Deck now.
Accessibility isn’t just coming to gaming — it’s here, and it’s official.

Wassup fedi, it's the weekly post again
Well, sad to say again, not really much this week, just had tests from school, very daunting, then after we'll have programs and whatnot,
Haven't been online on the fedi at all this week so I can't provide feedback, but I hope I'll have time to check again next week.
Also I'm trying to learn linux for a project I'm doing and I don't know where to start, so anyone from the #linux community, your help will be greatly appreciated, ps: I'm a complete noob

Hello people! I've been on the Fediverse for couple of years now, so here's my re-#introduction
I'm Ari, better known by my tag APZ and this is my #pinball repair, #arcade and #retrogaming account. I mostly post about playing and repairing pinball machines, but I also work on #retrocomputing with all the classics.
An IT guy by day, I moonlight as a pinball arcade owner here in #finland with my partner @quester. This is purely a hobby of mine, I do this to keep my sanity and to keep pinball alive for the next generations of players. At the moment I own a bit over 30 pinball machines from 70s to 2020s.
A lot of what I do involves #electronics, #CAD for now obsolete parts and #3dprinting and tabletop #cnc to recreate them.
I love to #travel, usually to meet like-minded arcade collectors. I have a strong preference to #repair stuff instead of throwing it away. I'm a #linux user since mid-90s, having been part of #foss movement most of my life. I also edit arcade related videos.

Dear friends of the BSD Cafe,
This idea has been in my mind since the very beginning of this adventure, almost two years ago. Over time, several people have suggested it. But until recently, I felt the timing just wasn’t right - for many reasons. Today, I believe it finally is.
So I’m happy to announce a new service:
The BSD Cafe Journal - https://journal.bsd.cafe
At first, I thought I’d use BSSG for it (I even added multi-author support with this in mind), but in the end, it didn’t feel like the right tool for the job.
The idea is to create a multi-author space, with content published on a fairly regular basis. A reference point for news, updates, tutorials, technical articles - a place to inform and connect.
Just like people in Italy used to stop by cafes to read the newspaper and chat about the day’s news, the BSD Cafe Journal aims to be a space for reading, sharing, and staying informed - all in the spirit of the BSD Cafe.
What it’s not:
It’s not here to replace personal blogs, or excellent newsletters like @vermaden 's. And it’s not an aggregator.
What it is:
A place where authors can write original content, share links to posts on their own blogs or elsewhere, publish guides, offer insights, or dive into technical explanations.
The guiding principles are the same as always: positivity, constructive discussion, promoting BSDs and open source in general. No hype (sharing a cool new service is fine, posting non-stop about the latest trend is not), no drama, no politics. The goal is to bring people together, not divide them. To inform, not inflame.
Respect, tolerance, and inclusivity are key. Everyone should feel welcome reading the BSD Cafe Journal - never judged, offended, or excluded.
The platform I’ve chosen is WordPress, for several reasons: it’s portable (runs well on all BSDs), has great built-in role management (contributors, authors, etc.), and - last but not least - supports ActivityPub.
This means every author will have their own identity in the Fediverse (like: @stefano ) and can be followed directly, and it’ll also be possible to follow the whole Journal.
Original and educational content is encouraged, but it’s also perfectly fine to link to existing articles elsewhere. Personally, I’ll link my technical posts from ITNotes whenever I publish them there.
The goal is simple: a news-oriented site, rich in content, ad-free, respectful of privacy - all under the BSD Cafe umbrella.
Content coordination will happen in a dedicated Matrix room for authors. There’ll also be a public room for discussing ideas, giving feedback, and sharing suggestions.
Of course, I can’t do this alone. A journal with no content is just an empty shell.
So here’s my call for action:
Who’s ready to lend a hand? If you enjoy writing, explaining, sharing your knowledge - the Journal is waiting for you.

Is your company looking for a keen self-hoster with plenty of #Linux experience? I grew up with #RaspberryPi and have picked up many skills along the way including #React, backend JavaScript (#NodeJS) and #Docker. My current obsession is monitoring all the things with #Grafana, #PRTG and #Prometheus. I’m based in the UK but open to primarily English-speaking roles in Germany, too. Currently wrapping up my Advanced Software Development degree but eager to continue learning! Boosts appreciated :D
