I built my own computer from scratch just so I could install Arch #Linux. It took me three days to get the WiFi working, but the sense of accomplishment was totally worth it.

When you start learning Linux commands and realize that the best resource is the man page. 😌

And people wonder why Linux is only at ~5% market share on Desktop...

It's all about how welcome you feel: If you feel like you've just "invaded" someone's "holy place", then this doesn't feel so welcome, does it!?

#Linux mavens, I need your help!

I’m an inveterate Apple user since 1979 … got my first Mac two weeks after release in 1984.

My studio runs on Mac, and that’s not going to change … but I would love a dedicated laptop to leap wholeheartedly into open source computing.

I’m looking for recommendations on hardware and distro, Linux-newbie friendly, future-compatible, powerful yet still affordable.

Don’t need Windows or Mac for this – I want to discover a new world. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I managed to run OpenWrt on my Xbox 360.

(EDIT: For those who don't know, OpenWrt is an open-source operating system for network routers. In theory, it might also be possible to use an Xbox 360 as a Wi-Fi access point.)

I have an old chromebook that I want to de-google. I need the friendliest easiest OS that will just fucking work (my issue with using anything Linux in the past has been inability to get it to connect to wifi or printers, and like dudes, I need that basic computer function!). Not a coder. Dont want to deal with command lines or writing things into kernels or whatever the lingo is.

So, dude-bros and sassy- lasses of Linux, what do I use? Talk to me like Im your 80 year old grandma trying to do this on her own. And if you cant reply kindly then fuckoff because Im not dealing with meangirls. (I know theres plenty of kind folk in these spaces but the rude as goose people sure talk over everyone else!! My banhammer is ready!)

Alguém comentou que tinha trocado o pipewire por pulseaudio+jack no debian 12 e eu achei estranho precisar disso. Acontece que no notebook eu tava usando o pipewire 1.2 (em vez do 0.3) via backports e tinha esquecido

Só lembrei agora que fui fazer a mesma coisa no orange pi 5. No meu caso resolveu um problema de clique no áudio quando eu tocava guitarra

OK nerds, what's the best email client on Linux?

I'm interested in both GUI and terminal email clients. I consider them to be in separate categories, not competing with one another.

Until recently I've just been using Gmail webmail + official clients because I'm a creature of habit, but I'm trying to transition away from Google. Currently experimenting with Migadu for email hosting.

EDIT: My goal is self-hosting, so no Proton or Tuta. (Also encrypted email is a bad idea.)
