The PubGLUG Nextcloud is live and open for registration. All accounts are manually approved and users must be 18 years of age and/or older. This instance is a community effort and part of the greater set of offerings that Haack's Networking provides.

It is my hope that in offering a community Nextcloud with open and moderated registration ... that this will result in more users choosing #selfhosted and/or #floss offerings for groupware (contacts, calendars, etc.). Those interested in setup notes and/or seeking assistance are encouraged to come chat on Matrix (link above). This instance has the following features:
▶️ Server-side encryption ensures that content on External Storage will be encrypted whether users set it up or not
↪️ E2E encryption provides users an easy way to use the Nextcloud sync client to create shares that even the sysadmin cannot see
💾 Users are given 50GB of storage from a large btrfs platter-based pool; users may request more in DMs with valid use-cases; users may attach their own external storage.
🔦 This instance is designed to assist in pulling people off iCloud, Google, etc. and teach/persuade them how to self-host NC themselves
✨️This is early registration. Some policies are not yet finished, some bugs remain, and we might find that some things don't work. Please be patient. With that said, feel free to sign up and let me know when you've joined. We are at the mall all day, but I've got access for approvals on the phone.

I have like zero respect left for developers who use LLMs to write or maintain their software.
I don't even care for the reasons why they use this unethical piece of... technology.
Technology trained on data they don't own. Technology owned and shaped by fascists. Technology that sends its crawlers around the globe to suck every bit they can find to dump their models into big f***ing corp data centers. Data centers that are polluting the air with their big ass gas plants.
But hey! "Leave ethics aside". "That's how software development works today!".
I'm so sick of this and about everyone supporting this industry.
If you feel targeted, you are welcome. I have zero respect for you or your software garbage. I just wish you the worst.

so i have questions about #Debian:
1. are members ONLY developers?
2. only developers argued for/against #LLM #AI?
devs are the last people who should be involved in discussions about the ethics and legality of software. ie:
just reckoned, when a court recently decided you can't claim #copyright on #aislop, it didn't occur to me it means both closed and open copyright.
so, if using #LLMs trained on works stolen or added without consent removes any claims of #FLOSS: what is Debian now?
When Be Inc folded up I continued to run #BeOS longer than most of my friends. AND when I threw in the towel I bounced around a lot. I tried going back to DOS for a couple months. I ran Gentoo #Linux for a while. Did a stint on Mac OS X on a PPC Mac I rescued at a surplus sale, and finally settled on Debian Linux for a few years.
I settled on #FLOSS OSes like Linux because I wanted something that wasn't going to die like BeOS did, or focus shift away from the user like Be Inc had. I figured FLOSS would always "live" as long as developers were interested in it.
Ive done a few stints with NetBSD and FreeBSD and have distro hopped a fair bit these past five years, feeling increasingly unhappy.
Its clear to me I was right about FLOSS's lifespan. But I failed to realize I think, that it can still loose it's soul.
