Here are two things everyone can do to help combat this:
1. If you see an account posting or spamming Telegram links, report it. Many of the accounts are impersonating news outlets — check verification status, the account's follower count, or the outlet's website to confirm if the account is real or fake.
2. Donate to your local mods if you can, or at least give them a big virtual hug and say thanks. They've been working tirelessly around the clock to combat this and deserve our gratitude and support.

- makes believe he is just a commoner, and not the billionaire owner of one of the largest message, media and metadata *cleartext* databases on earth
- skips over Global Warming
- refers to "fathers and forefathers" of the Internet ... apparently never heard of Radia Perlman, Margaret Hamilton or Ada Lovelace?
- conveniently excludes Russia and its authoritarian politics from his critique

关于Telegram创始人在法国被捕 ——
目前消息不多。但Telegram的未来和杜罗夫个人的未来可能并不相关。整个系统不太可能只与一个人联系在一起，尤其是至少有两个杜罗夫 - 还有他的兄弟。
帕维尔·杜罗夫很可能是 Telegram 的 “代言人”，但他的管理功能有限。帕维尔·杜罗夫曾在俄罗斯亲身经历过 VK被接管的事件，再加上不久前 Telegram 遭到的猛烈攻击，其逻辑必然会促使 Telegram 的管理层将关键的管理职能 “分拆”到不同的人手中。
从这个意义上说，如果 Telegram 的战略家们还拥有最起码的脑子，那么即使失去了公司的第一张公众面孔，也不会成为公司倒闭的原因。
当然，尚不清楚的是杜罗夫抵达法国的原因，因为对他的拘留令在法国生效。一定是发生了什么事，他才会冒这样的风险。不过猜测这些的意义不大。
可以理解的是，目前很多人会把这次拘留与杜罗夫和普京之间可能的会面联系起来，但这个可能性比较低，因为逮捕令是很久以前就签发了的，法国应该没有如此远见的人以至于能够在一年前就预测到这次会面。

End-to-End Encryption is good but metadata protection counts as much. Names, group descriptions and memberships, avatars, who talks to whom ...
Both #deltachat and #signal go to great length to protect all the metadata that WhatsApp grants itself gratuitously. #Matrix stores similar scales of metadata on their servers, even if you can choose which server stores it.
Everything is better than #Telegram which additionally stores message contents in all group chats/channels and most 1:1 chats.

For my White Town band chat, I'm thinking of bunging #phpBB up on my own webspace. At the minute we have a #WhatsApp group but obviously that's yet another Meta product. I think running a lil forum just for the six people in the band will be cool!
