Google plan to limit ad-blockers kicks off next week.
If only there were a way we could fire Chrome so we could out-fox Google's plan 🤔

Thoughts on the new Mozilla statement regarding #firefox #PPA
I don't care how strong you think the privacy properties of a new feature are (and there are legitimate arguments to be had disputing those technical claims) - enabling an experiment like that by default is incredibly disrespectful to users, and doubling down is the act that comes across as outright hostile.

> The keepalive initialization option to the global fetch() method and the Request() constructor are now supported, along with the Request.keepalive property. keepalive can be set to true to prevent the browser from aborting the associated request if the page that initiated it is unloaded before the request is complete. This might be used, for example, to send analytics at the end of a session, even if the user navigates away from or closes the page.

Ðats a very bad example…
"I find it more than a little ironic that many people still pick Firefox as their web browser because they hate Google and Chrome. Mozilla, Firefox's parent organization, lives and dies by the money it gets from Google. No Google: No Firefox. Seriously."
Interesting final few paragraphs.
If "AI in the browser" was of any true value to users, it would be shipped as an extension. Maybe a paid extension.
Then the market could decide its value.
Forcing it into the browser without consent is an admission that it does not provide users with value and could not survive without a heavy thumb on the scales.
PNG and XCF on request :)

@trunksapp any clue why I'd be seeing these instead of the proper icons? It looks that's only happening with #Floorp (Firefox based) and #Firefox browser but can't understand why. It doesn't look like any content is getting blocked. I'm also struggling to load the page, but that also happens with Firefox and Safari 🤷♂️

Mozilla CEO made around 7 million USD last year, but hosting bills are pending. Now, they updated the ToS, and you can't watch p0rn, or your data will be sold, or they no longer care about the orignal mission, etc. Once again, we see C-suits lose their grip on reality. As long as they are getting paid in millions, software projects can go to /dev/null. It is like they want to ruin the project on purpose. There is no other explanation I can think of. Can you?
Are there any web browsers that are NOT chromium that support PWAs?
I know Firefox said they're looking back into it a few weeks ago for desktop. But I figure that'll be a while. Currently I'm using a base chromium fork for my desktop, but wondering if there are other options.

I'm using #phanpy installed as a #firefox #pwa to access #mastodonSocial on an #android phone. Few days ago my system bar turned teal. Whodunit?!

#Degoogling update: I’ve installed #vivaldi with maxed out privacy setting on my devices with #startpage as my default search engine. Much improved experience. Vivaldi seems less resource intensive than #firefox and it seems to have completely killed all ads on #Youtube, which claims back some of my life (60 second ads on 3 minute videos is a joke, yes I’m aware YT is Google owned).
I don't know how recent this change is but I noticed #Firefox removed https:// from the address bar so now every link and every website I visit looks insecure. I know there is a padlock icon next to the address bar but it doesn't seem quite as easily scannable to me.
Browsers are still on the news and this time they're caught in the AI wars: https://world.hey.com/ricardo.tavares/ai-browsers-less-local-more-clouds-e19c5386 How does that help or threaten the web?
