"There are several possible dates you might pick, but for me it will always be September 5th 2014 - when I committed the first sketch of a specification I called ActivityPump and pushed it to Github."
Happy 12th birthday, ActivityPub!

#introduction time! My name is Matt, I'm new to veganism.social, but not new to the #Fediverse. I first joined in 2018 on a #mastodon instance that's probably gone by now. I've been leaving and coming back over the years due to health and life circumstances, but I've been consistently back on for a while.
Anyways, I'm an #opensource web developer (#php / #vue), #punk / #metal musician, #anarchist, #antifascist as hell, #feminist, #ally, and hater of #bigtech and what #ai is doing to our planet. Speaking of our planet, I am a #vegan for health and ethical reasons, but I am not going to be shitty towards people if they're not.
I'm in the process of building out my own little spot on the #indieweb / #smallweb so I can return to running my mouth on a blog.
If I followed you, it's probably because we have common interests, or I enjoy your brand of #shitposting. Or you've activated my inner-geek with #startrek and #videogames.
Anyways, thanks for reading all of this. I hope the attached picture of Marvin the Mushroom has brightened your feed in some way.

"Rogue" AI is also settling on the Fediverse, at least they're trying..
The most time spend on moderation nowadays goes to removing "AI Agents" from out platforms
I still have no idea what the intentions are since it just seems like a waste of resources on both sides
Creating endless bot accounts to post nonsense is an attack on the service, nothing less

Pixelix is now free!
After two and a half years of developing Pixelix and having it as a paid app, we've decided to switch things up and make Pixelix free for everyone.
We’re really excited to see where this takes Pixelix, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us so far.

When _YOU_ look at _YOUR_ profile picture on the screen, it [FACES] (looks)...
EDIT: you guys are going to give me a stroke - if there is a face in your profile picture, is it facing right or left.. dont think too much about it. dont worry about the eyes. just generally... my profile picture looks to the right, for example. OK COOL
EDIT7: OK, how about this - where does the NOSE / BEAK / SNOUT / ? point to.
EDIT8: I wish I never made this poll.
EDIT9: If you have an ANIMATED avatar, then judge it on the 1st frame.
EDIT10: If there are both a MIRROR REFLECTION as well as a FACE, decide on the direction the FACE is facing, not the reflection.
(boost this, i beg you - this is important.)

Sometimes people like to say that the 'likes' in the FEDIVERSE don't mean anything. Maybe to some.
If you have a snac follower, and they like your posts, take a moment to appreciate them.

as far as the #fediverse zeitgeist is concerned, i did more for #sephora in the 5 days i've been on this platform, than sephora has done for sephora since the fediverse began.

#Fediverse today consists of apps and app platforms. It is entirely app-centric.
Since fediverse (luckily) didn't attract much corporate attention yet, it is dominated by #FOSS culture, where people on the #SocialWeb are all "users" that are dependent on FOSS developers to serve their needs. Every dev focuses on their app features first and #interoperability second, leading to a patchwork of poorly integrated apps, and a janky overall experience. The app delivery model is not much different than Web 2.0.
A paradigm shift is possible, to a #SocialNetwork of apps and services, a service-oriented #fedi. The efforts around the #ActivityPub API can be the enabler of this shift.
In this new paradigm devs introduce solutions to a unified #SocialNetworking space, delivering new services to participants on the network. On top of a robust Protocol Layer they model social use cases in the Data Layer, integrating with services and building blocks already available.

Have you ever met someone from the Fediverse in person to do something together?
I don't mean at a Fediverse-related event. If you have, I'd be curious to hear what kind of activity brought you together.
I've seen people from other social media platforms organize offline activities and meetups, Facebook and Instagram (Meta), Orkut (Google), and Twitter (now X), and I'm curious whether this happens through the Fediverse too.
Please, boost to find more activities, if any.
