Iāve been experiencing a number of symptoms on this account for several weeks, at least.
Outbound toots are delayed by a great deal (~1h). They donāt show up on othersā TLs until long after Iāve posted. I suspect this varies by the other instance. I sometimes get much faster responses from certain users despite a general, overall delay of about an hour.
When there is a reaction or response to a post, I first see it on the Notifications tab in the UI (web or app) & often more or less right away. Then much later (typically an hour or so), a push notification shows up.
I suspect this has something to do with my instance, c.im, though the status page is always green. I wonder if it involves versions of #Mastodon or something (currently 4.4.3 on c.im). Iāve always assumed it would eventually clear up, but no sign of that yet.
So I think before long I may start another account. Idk if Iāll migrate this one or just have a second account. At least, maybe I can prove that the delay doesnāt follow the change of instance. Not sure what else it could be.
So Iāll go digging again, but in case anyone has opinions, any recommendations for new instances? I want to avoid the big, populous ones like mastodon.social. I chose c.im in part for high limits on posts (8 poll options, 5k char limit, etc). I also use the search function extensively. I think itās not available by default, so not every instance has it. (Not sure if thatās right.)

The new version of @mastowatch is in #Testflight!
The navigation scheme for the app has been totally rebuilt and feels *awesome* in iOS 26. The prior version immediately feels ancient by comparison.
This version also includes maybe the most requested feature ever, iCloud syncing for favorites! History is still stored on your device but favorites should sync to any device running the new version.

We're excited to share an update on #Fedify's development! While we're actively working on Fedify 1.9 in the main branch, we've also begun preparations for Fedify 2.0 in the next branch.
Before you get too excited about revolutionary new features, we want to set clear expectations: Fedify 2.0 will primarily focus on cleaning up technical debt that we couldn't address due to backward compatibility constraints. This means removing deprecated APIs and making breaking changes that will ultimately result in a cleaner, more maintainable codebase. Think of it as a major housekeeping releaseānecessary work that will make Fedify better in the long run.
Some of the planned improvements include adding readonly modifiers throughout our types and interfaces to better enforce our immutability-by-default principle, implementing our own RFC 6570 URI Template library for symmetric expansion and pattern matching, and various CLI tool migrations to our new Optique framework for better cross-runtime support. While the majority of changes will be about refinement rather than revolution, these updates will strengthen Fedify's foundation and improve interoperability across the #fediverse. Yesterday morning I was flipping through my Mastodon timeline via Flipboard and I saw a post from @gtconway3.
@tchambers had boosted George's post using whatever app Tim likes to use to these days (I suspect @phanpy though it could just as easily have been the native Mastodon app, @mammoth, @ivory, or @IceCubesApp)
I tapped on George's profile and saw he was posting from #Threads. I tapped the follow button and now I see his latest posts in Mastodon and Flipboard.
There's a whole new array of apps, people and posts in the fediverse and it all just works. It's wonderful.

Today was a huge milestone in our quest to federate #Flipboard and tear down the walls around our own walled garden.
First, we launched a new version of Flipboard for iOS and Android which brings the promise of two way federation to life. Now when a federated Flipboard user curates, people in the fediverse can reply, favorite, boost or follow those Flipboard users who will in turn see that activity in their usual notifications tab. Even better, Flipboard users can directly reply to people in the fediverse -- and very soon they will also be able to follow each other.
Second, we federated some of our best curators today who are actively curating more than 10,000 magazines about everything from climate change to kale smoothie recipes. I'm grateful to our many curators and the service they provide to so many others who want to find the best content about a shared interest. I know our curators are excited to have millions more people who could potentially benefit from their curation. I also know that people in the fediverse will give a warm welcome to these curators. Especially now that everyone can hear and talk to each other over what was once two totally separate networks but now increasingly are in one and the same #fediverse.

I wrote about the slowly dying breed of siloed social networks and how the #Fediverse can breathe new life into existing services.
The problem with building a closed social network is that it sets up an all or nothing premise for users. They might like some of the signature features but they'll leave if there's not enough people to network with. That's a shame and a huge barrier to innovation and new social products.
The #fediverse changes that forever. People can now use the features they like from a mix of apps across a common network of people. This means we can take a whole new approach to how "social" and "media" should work including discovery, user experience and monetization that will be far healthier than anything we've had in the past.
š That was odd! When I mentioned @darnell@flipboard.com on my #WordPress blog, it pinged my #Flipboard account on my iPhone even though #ActivityPub is not yet activated (I received a push notification, which later revealed nothing š).
If it pings again via #Mastodon, I might do various tests upon other #Fediverse accounts (like #Misskey & #Threads).
@mike Now that Flipboard is #fediverse interactive, can a Flipboard account be used with a Mastodon client? I want to set my wife up with a Mastodon account and Iām wondering if we can just use her Flipboard account? #InquiringMinds #SocialMedia
